Another one bites the dust
« on: July 19, 2007, 01:31:15 PM »
Mightybids decided to compete with ebaY.

First, greenzap, a scam payment processor, claimed they had a business relationship.

After several years, they are trying to sell their site.  On ebaY, of course.

To make sure they have nothing to offer, they got rid of all their employees and shut down all auctions, so it's not even an ongoing business.

They brag 100,000+ users (single ebaY sellers have more than three times that many ebaY customers).

And to prove that they are stupid until the very end, they paid ebaY a reserve fee on $100,000 or more reserve price, instead of just putting what they want for it.

Quote
MightyBids is just one of many online auction sites that have arisen from discontent with eBay fees, said Rosalinda Baldwin, chief executive of The Auction Guild watchdog group.

Without looking at MightyBids' site but taking into account its user base, she estimated the site wasn't worth much more than the cost of registering its Internet address, or around $9.

It's not.  There are thousands of wannabe feebays already.

At most a handful are successful by any stretch of the imagination.  An ASM auction site would be a tremendous undertaking and odds are a million to one that it would be successful.

Sure would be fun to try.  I know there are tons of them out there but every now and then you get a group that's successful - why couldn't ASM be that group?

After seeing how fast and how successful Tomas was with PoshPoints it makes you wonder :?
