...excuse me???   I'm not "bent over"... just trying to find the difference;
I use auctiva and it sends me to an ebay link that is supposed to explain
the difference, but doesn't.    I think that both upgrades are 19.95$ each, but can't tell which one is the better benefit.

Featured plus can be worthwhile sometimes, especially if it's on sale and you have a quantity you want to move.

Gallery featured is a waste of money, IMHO.
It means when people browse by gallery view, you'll be featured. but how many people browse that way? maybe more than used to, but in my experience (there's an oops here) gallery featured doesn't generate much extra attention.

featured plus puts you at the top of the category view and IIRC at the top of the page for search results... depending on how many people do featured in your category, sometimes it's more worth it than others.

Hmmm.... and they're both the same $19.95,  right?
My daughter had done 'gallery featured' recently and when i put a couple of search words in ebay search, it came up on top .... that's why i've never understood the "difference" in those two.

I don't know what IIRC means...  :-[

Are you sure those were featured plus? They are too easy to mix up when listing, IMHO. That's how I've listed as the wrong one before  :-[ I see featured and think featured, as in what featured plus gives you.

Ebay explanations of the two:

Gallery Featured: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/gallery_featured.html

Featured Plus: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/featured_plus.html

Listing upgrade overviews: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/promoting_ov.html

IIRC took me a while too, but now that I know what it means, I use it probably to much... If I Recall Correctly

I've found it's a matter of using the right search words in ebay's help...then going down the page because the most appropriate result is rarely first :rolleyes

Here are ALL the fees. You have to click to expand some sections. http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html

(to go read these, i "hung up, so to speak" on live help ... and WOW ... if you ask me, from what I viewed as the differences, and from what i have exeperienced , having done 'gallery featured' before, this is really interesting ........
I know for a fact that when looking up my daughter's auctions having been "gallery featured" that if i typed in a couple or a few keywords of her title, here listing would show up on top, along the whole page, with the other listings looked up .......

---------
what i THINK i'm seeing on the page serendipity just sent, is that if she does "Gallery Featured!", it becomes on of those THREE small block/banner ads, across the top of the page, BEFORE the long 'all the way across the page' listings that get pulled up. ........ i NEVER click on and look at those
3 little thingamajig banner things on top of the opened up search page... do you???
--------
on the other hand, i know my daughter has used "Gallery Featured" before, and they show up, along the length of the 'page' at top of category! .....
-------
I'm more confused now than ever .... guess I'll pick Life Help's brain again, even though I'll be "on hold" for awhile

Gallery is a waste of money, and gallery featured features you in gallery, making it an even bigger waste of money, unless there is some strange reason why your buyers search by gallery pix instead of keywords.

Feeatured Pus puts you at the top of the page your search results appear in, for the convenience of the three people who still use ebaY.

Like Joolz sez, either way you're getting bent over.

.... fredd .... is Featured Plus the ones where the listing fits across the top of the page, just above the regular listings?... or rather, is it one of the 3 small banner listings, which appear above THAT.

edited to add p.s...  'one' would only use this feature on an item they expect will go for a nice big fistful of hundreds of dollars ... it's all about the Benjamin's, baby.

Well Thank Goodness, somebody understood what I meant.

No offense meant Marcia.

There are very few instances I would recommend that a seller use either of those options.

Fees and ebay...don't get me started.

Thanks... I sort of "know ebay", having sold there since before it was even named 'ebay',  and this IS a situation to use a good "up top" feature,  but it's been pretty long time seen i've seen a good reason to use it, so I was asking what was the difference (of the placement/where is it positioned/seen)....

Featured Pus listings are highlighted and appear at the top of the column full size, plus again in their normal position in the column.  For example, if you're viewing 50 items to a page, highest price first, and yours is the 57th highest price, it will appear at the top of the second page, and seven items down on the second page.  Ditto for ending soonest, or whatever other sort is being used.

Banner ads are adwords, a completely different thing.  They will come up randomly at the top of a page where a keyword being paid for is searched.  If there are six people paying for that keyword or set of keywords, and three ads, the top three payers will appear, with an occasional switch to one of the lower paying ads.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say three smal banner listings...do you mean the ads at the very top? Some of those are paid placements you can participate in, and many are corporate advertising.

Marcia, I'd say featured plus would give you more bang for your buck.

How many others feature in your category is important to how effective featurng your listing will be. If no one else is featured, you get prime placement. If there are 3 pages of featured listings, then it's not as valuable a tool. If you want you can PM me with what you're listing and what category and I can see if there are listings that are featured to point them out.

Yeah... fredd... hit the nail on the head, and is what i want....

------------------
just finished a lonnnng chat w/ ebay Live rep... and she had
to try and look up stuff too ... (she didn't really know the answers)
... and she SURE didn't know about the banner ads....

went kinda like this... a-one and a-two and a-three...

Welcome to eBay Billing Support. My name is Kami how may I assist you tonight?
6:18:36 PM  Me
hi kami... what exactly is the difference between
"Gallery Featured" vs "Featured Plus?"
, and they're both $19.95, right? ...
how do the 2 vary between how they are
displayed in a "Search"
6:19:25 PM  Kami M.
Let me pull it up for you.
6:20:48 PM  Me:
you don't know, off the top of your head? :-) I read what i could find on the
6:20:55 PM  Me:
site map, and it wasn't clear to me
6:22:45 PM  Kami M.
Gallery feature is on our featured page, however the feature plus puts your item up at the top of the page in that category.
6:24:17 PM  Me:
"feature plus!" is along the length of the page?, above the other listings? .... and "featured gallery" is pulled up, by an ebay shopper, how???
6:24:50 PM  Kami M.
When they search for that item it pulls it up at the top of the page.
6:25:12 PM  Kami M.
Instead of just on the search page.
6:26:00 PM  Me:
but that's what you said about the 'featured plus' option. .... can you email my main email address, with picture of how each of those differ, in looks?
6:26:41 PM  Me:
i find it very confusing, and want to use the best (of one or the other) to my advantage on one my listings soon
6:27:12 PM  Kami M.
Yes I can email you the difference now.
6:28:09 PM  Me:
i mean... you hit "enter" for search keywords, and lots of stuff comes up... there are some sort of 'featured' listings, alonnnnng the top, that appear before the regular listings............. there are also 3 or 4 small banner ads, above that... is that what one of these 2 option upgrades is for?
6:29:06 PM  Kami M.
Yes that is the feature plus.
6:29:16 PM  Kami M.
You have to click on Gallery to view those items.
6:29:26 PM  Me:
the 3 or 4 little banner looking ads is the Feature Plus?
6:30:02 PM  Me:
I have to click on Gallery to view which items, Kami?
6:31:21 PM  Kami M.
Yes, and if you chose to have a gallery feature buyers have to click on the Gallery link above all the searches to view your item in the Gallery listings.
6:31:31 PM  Kami M.
Like for instance.
6:31:36 PM  Kami M.
Say you listed a pair a glasses.
6:31:43 PM  Me:
ok
6:32:26 PM  Kami M.
Then when I chose glasses your item will pull up however if I want to view items just in the Gallery then your item will be pulled on that list and I can view just those.
6:32:36 PM  Kami M.
But if you have a feature plus listing....
6:32:49 PM  Me:
ok.... and... yes... what if 'feature plus'
6:32:56 PM  Me:
you type in glasses, then what?
6:32:56 PM  Kami M.
Then I chose glasses your item will be pulled to the top of the page for the category I chose.
6:33:18 PM  Me:
and that's only if you went, as a shopper TO the glasses category?
6:33:29 PM  Kami M.
Correct.
6:33:43 PM  Kami M.
Or to what category you chose.
6:33:47 PM  Kami M.
Like accessories.
6:34:08 PM  Me:
OR... is it if you typed, as a newbie user, on the main ebay page, into the Search box, the word "glasses" ......... it would take a newbie way long to "find" the category of eyeglasses
6:34:57 PM  Me:
so what is the best, of those 2 upgrades to use, to help a newbie find the item listed (since i'm spending an extra $20 to list this)
6:36:11 PM  Kami M.
Yeah, I would say the feature plus because as a buyer my self I like to view the top items on the list first and I usually bid on those first because the item is right there.
6:37:03 PM  Kami M.
But that would be your chose.
6:37:39 PM  Me:
man oh man... ok... those 2 are SO similar... the "top items on the list" are the 3 or 4 banner-like listings/ads .... then, come the big block, all the way across the page ads (which are upgrades... i guess the gallery featured).... then all the regular auction ads ..... am i right?
6:39:02 PM  Kami M.
Okay I have something that may help I don't know if you have tried it yet but on our help pages it gives examples and all I can get those for you now if you would like to view them?
6:39:18 PM  Me:
ok... thanks
6:39:41 PM  Kami M.
No problem, this one is for Feature Plus.
6:39:42 PM  Kami M.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/featured_plus.html
6:40:22 PM  Kami M.
This is for Gallery
6:40:22 PM  Kami M.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/gallery_plus.html
6:41:31 PM  Kami M.
Sorry Gallery Feature is this one.
6:41:32 PM  Kami M.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/gallery_featured.html
6:42:16 PM  Me:
hmmmm.... neither of those is what I'm thinking of though, kari! .... at top of page, when you pull up a big group of listings, BEFORE all the core auction listings, are several, ALL ACROSS THE PAGE, listings .... those listings also appear withing the core auction listings ....... i think THAT is what i'm looking for ...
6:42:57 PM  Me:
ok wow.... all of those 3 your showed me, none are what i'm 'looking' for, as described, just above ^
6:44:06 PM  Me:
and by the way, they may only appear on (top of the page) along with the other auctions, that end in the same time period
6:44:18 PM  Kami M.
That is our home page feature.
6:44:22 PM  Kami M.
And that feature rotates.
6:44:43 PM  Me:
and home page feature is NOT 19.95, right?
6:45:25 PM  Kami M.
No it's not.
6:45:25 PM  Me:
it's like more like a hundred dollars i think. (never used THAT before LOL)
6:45:38 PM  Kami M.
LOl
6:45:56 PM  Me:
close to $100 for that ... right?
6:46:13 PM  Kami M.
Yes
6:46:29 PM  Me:
ok... thanks... i'll figure out what to do from here ... have a great evening
6:46:43 PM  Kami M.
You too.
6:46:43 PM  Kami M.
Do you have any more questions at this time that I can assist you with?
6:47:05 PM  Me:
...don't think so... thanks for looking into it...
----------------------
anyway... i'm thinking what Fredd said about "Featured Plus" is what I'm looking for  ... thanks every1

Actually, I think home page featured is only $40, but really kinda worthless for two reasons:

1)  Who starts on the home page?
2)  Of those who do, if 500 people are paying for homepage featured out of 12 million ads, and 10 ads are featured on the homepage, you have a 2% chance of your ad appearing for any given customer.
