When I fail to win an auction.
« on: July 02, 2007, 08:30:31 AM »
Being weak willed and not wishing to get into bidding wars, I use a sniping tool to bid on items on Ebay. I just set my limit and then sit back and wait to see if I win.

If I am outbid, I just accept that someone was prepared to pay more then myself for a particular item.

However, I do get a perverse satisfaction that by placing a snipped bid at the last minute, then the winning buyer would have been sitting there watching the auction as it gets near the end thinking he has a bargain at the opening price, only to see it shoot up in price with about three seconds to go.

Call it childish, but it makes me feel better and overcomes the disappointment of not winning the auction.  :0771

Howard.

As a seller, I feel good for the other seller that they got more money for their item...if I wasn't the winning bidder. If I'm the winner, I like to get the lowest price possible  :smarty

LOL. I can't use a sniper, because I do all my ebay shopping through Bigcrumbs. (When I forget to go through bigcrumbs for ebay purchases, I bang my head on the wall :0195)

So I do all my sniping manually - which doubles the fun, and the heart-pounding adrenaline rush!
I open 2 windows, one that's being tracked by Bigcrumbs, and one regular. On the regular one I just hit the refresh button, and on the tracked one I have my bid all ready to go - just need to hit confirm. Timing is everything...about the best I've done is 3 seconds before ending.
Oh, if anyone hasn't signed up for Bigcrumbs yet, it's high time to do so! I've saved lots, and earned even more. I've gotten paid over $50 now from them:

I use BigCrumbs also.  I managed to snag a win tonight with just 6 seconds to go for the opening bid :D!

The sniping pros play in the coin auctions.  I've seen one cent snipes with 0 seconds on the clock.

Actually it was at 28 and when I clicked bid I was sent to the sign in page ::)

But after that it was at 6 and I'm glad I got it.  I was watching it for a few days now, knew it was ending in about an hour but then went off to cook dinner and forgot about it.  I'm just happy I got it!
