Thank you, Danielle! :vibes
Yes, swimming is great exercise! Don't worry about this past week, start all over and begin again.
I know you can do it, anyone who can be a wife and mother, homeschool 2 young boys and do everything else that you do, will have NO problem getting more fit by exercise and watching what you eat.
I found a wonderful site to track what I eat and the calories I burn, it is
www.thedailyplate.com
and it is really making me think about EVERY thing I eat or drink.  :-X

When my BIL was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and was told by his doc to lose weight, he asked what diet to try. Doc told him the answer was simple. Don't go on a diet, but when you load your plate up to eat, scrap 1/2 back. And don't do seconds. He dropped 30 lbs. and didn't even exercise.

Good idea, Jeri!
My mom and dad are also trying to slim down a bit, so now my mom sets the table with the luncheon sized plates from her china service. (They are a lot smaller than dinner plates, and they can still fill it up and stay on track!) Deborah

Oh, that was something I was going to mention, too! He felt so cheated by the smaller portion that they went out and got smaller plates... half the serving fills the plate so the mind is fooled into thinking you're getting a lot!

I've been getting a little more exercise but don't want to overdo it. (that's my excuse for not doing more *heh*).

Deborah, how do you like the recumbent bike? I've been seriously considering getting one for my home. Probably a stationary one since I wouldn't trust myself to get half way across town and conk out. Seems like it would be easier on all the body parts than a conventional bike.

The recumbent stationary bike is wonderful. It is the major thing that is recommended by my therapists,  as low impact, but still very effective for strength, endurance and/or cardio benefits. I love to use them. I own a very nice treadmill, but the bike is what I really like to use. I recommend getting one that is what they call step through, so you don't have a bar to swing your leg over when you get on. The recumbent ones that I use at therapy and at the health club all have wonderful full seats with a supportive back so you are not sitting on a traditional bicycle seat, more like a regular chair seat.

Since the ones that I have used are all commercial bikes and are made for PT centers or health clubs, I can not give a personal recommendation for any particular home model, but these are very similar in design to the one that I use every time.

Oooo!! Thanks for the links and the critique. I need something low impact but still good for strength and cardio. And let's face it, anything I can do sitting as opposed to standing is a major plus.

I think that was my basic philosophy of life! (At least it was for so many years with so much pain before my knee replacements)

Oh, Jeri, I also forget to mention that when you shop for a recumbent exercise bike, make sure that you find one that allows you to move not only the seat, but the back of the seat as well. For example, since you are not tall and I am, we need different positions for our legs, and you may like your seat back more reclined than I do, so you should find one that is fully adjustable.

When I was in the market for the treadmill that we bought, I went to several sporting goods stores, like Dick's or Dunham's, or Sports Authority to try them to see if I liked them. Even if you end up buying one somewhere else, (such as Amazon or eBay, etc), at least you have actually sat on one and tried it before you commit to it.

Excellent idea, Deborah! It will be quite an investment considering my budget and I guess I need to give one a test drive! I'm also considering checking out a local gym. My sister goes to Curves but their kind of workout sounds too intense for me. I'm not trying to lose weight, just gradually build strength without getting overheated or too fatigued.

If I can find a gym that has a recumbent bike I might even join just to use that one thing.   That way I can see if it's something I would stick with rather than blowing a couple hundred for another thing to dust.

That's great, leo! That's a lot of weight for one week...can we rest assured that you lost all that in a safe, healthy way?

I am back on Lasix.

Pretty soon my doctor is going to start giving me acupuncture treatment for weight loss.

:D! Yay Leo!!! Do you feel any different? Just pick up a 5 lb sack of sugar and think to yourself "I lost this much!" that's 5 lbs you don't have to carry any more. Now put down the sugar and that's another 5.  :0240

Not really.  Sitting in one position for four hours is a PITA.   As long as my BP is up, tho, I feel OK.

I can't speak for the quality of it (looks a lot like my cheap one!) but you can get a free pedometer here:

I hear the survey is VERY short.
