STOCK UP on Cap N' Crunch!  Cap'n Crunch sails into obscurity
Cap'n Crunch was once the No. 1 breakfast cereal, but pressure from the White House and health activists is having an effect on how PepsiCo and other food companies peddle their products to kids. Sales of the cereal were down 6.8 percent in 2010.

Holy Moly I gotta go stock up....I put milk on mine and nuke it for 20 seconds so it doesn't cut the roof of my mouth up like it does, but it's a GREAT hot cereal too, I LOVE Cap'n Crunch

Off to Winn Dixie and anywhere else I can find a decent price or maybe a BOGO

I had a friend who used to eat this with scoops (plural) of added sugar.

One over processed genetically modified crappy product off the market, big whoop there are thousands more.  Like PepsiCo actually gives a crap while they continue to make sodas full of HFCS?  What is one box of cereal going to do?

<sigh>  The Cap'n and I shared many morning repasts in my youth.  I'll miss him.  I especially enjoy the PB Crunch - is that going away too?  Isn't anything SACRED anymore?

I did notice his box looked different when I cruised the cereal aisle the other night - just caught a glance, but I don't think it was bright orange anymore.

Fading into obscurity, one box at a time.   :s0147

I stopped buy Peanut Butter cap'n crunch when the mouse eat throigh the tupperware container to get to the cereal!
We loved it before then.
I was worried that the strong smell of pb was attacking the mice from the open space into my house!

Don't bother stocking up.
Pepsico isn't stopping production...along with this article, many others quote Pepsico as saying they will continue making the ceral, however they won't be marketing to children.

In the article it states:
"PepsiCo is no longer marketing Cap'n Crunch cereal directly to children. In a sense, you could say that they have retired Cap'n Crunch, and that's a good thing," Jennifer Harris, of the Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity at Yale University, told DailyFinance. "Unfortunately, children continue to view hundreds of ads per year for high-sugar cereals from General Mills, Kellogg's and Post Foods."

The critics have a point: Children cereals contain 85 percent more sugar, 65 percent less fiber and 60 percent more sodium when compared with adult cereals, according to the Rudd Center research. The average preschooler has viewed more than 500 television ads for such cereals.

So, what's gone are the animated commericals that were actually better than the product itself.

@Scoot
Yep.
From the research I did on the product, they might not even be using "The Cap'n" on the packaging any longer, also.

When grocery shopping...that's one of my most dreaded aisles to go down due to the whiny children. It's worse than the cracker/cookie aisle in my opinion.

So maybe it's good that we aren't selling cereal and candy or even toys directly to children anymore, but look at all the other things some adults don't give a second thought of exposing children to that would have sent our parents screaming for the authorities.

Sorta like the toys in happy meals.

If you don't market to your audience ... what happens ... sales drop.  Sales drop and they will stop making it.

That certainly explains the different packaging I saw.  No Cap'n - it was white and blue, I think.

 :?

My kids have only ever wanted Life and Cheerios - so I've never had a problem with the cereal aisle.  However, I do have a nephew and niece who might as well be eating right out of the sugar bowl every morning...Fruit Loops and such - yuck!

My kids tried Cap'n crunch one time and said it hurt the roof of their mouths - never tried it again.

They are in the minority, I know...

My kids were Cheerios, Kix and Chex until they stated using GMO sugar and corn along with BHT.  Now they eat Publix Greenwise Flax Flakes or Natures' Path Organic Sunrise Mesa.  We are right there in the minority with you!

I hear ya and second that.
During the majority of their life, my children wanted Life, Cheerios, Raisin Bran, Special K and Wheaties.
However, we (mostly their father, ha) did allow them to choose any type of cereal during vacations/weekends out of town and such. The children knew the rules, the cereal did not come home with us.
Regarding whining: If my children ever uttered a whining noise in public, they were promptly removed from the store/restaurant/etc. 'till they had an attitude adjustment. Whining was unacceptable behavior we wouldn't tolerate.

When we hung with my friends with the Chinese restaurant, we'd take their son (4 or 5 at the start) darn near anywhere.  Two rules covered a lot of ground.

First was car behavior, told him once and he repeated it from memory:
Get in, sit down, shut up, hang on.

Second was restaurant/other adult amusement behavior:
We'll take you anywhere we go, as long as you act like a grown-up.  If you want to act like a kid, you can stay at the restaurant by yourself, while we go have fun.
Never had to explain that a second time, either.

He was a great straight man, too.  Like the time we went to Fuddrucker's, a great burger joint near Hooter's.  We went close enough to the latter for him to memorize a lot of details.  When we got back, dad asked where we went, and he told him all about the trip to Hooters.
