800# gorilla neutered (new stamp/coin auction site)
« on: October 18, 2008, 08:22:13 AM »
Just found an auction site (not sales site) that isn't even on the big lists, but blows ebaY away:

http://www.stampwants.com
1,015,710 listings
http://search.ebay.com/stamp
51,770 listings

http://coins.stampwants.com/
12,069 listings  (started June 15)
http://search.ebay.com/coin
64,379 listings

And you can win a $20 gold piece!

I realize it's been around.  I just wonder why it's not listed on places like powersellersunite.

BTW, maybe you can help me with something. I've lost the name and website of a rather large dealer around Chicago who generally has large quantities of discount postage.  I'll need a few thousand dollars worth to start the season, and need a reliable source.

I suspect it's not listed on powersellersunite because it would be almost impossible for anyone other than the organizers/founders to actually sell anything there.  These guys have millions of dollars worth of stock, and millions of dollars.  From what I've seen, they tie up the vast majority of the listings, so for a smaller sell to get found in search there might be very difficult.

Might your Chicago dude be Bob Friedman?

Actually, they advertise the stamp and coin sites in the Numismatist for people to list their stuff.

I've dealt in stamps on a small scale for decades.  What a low-ticket, labor intensive business.

Thanx for the lead.

yep they let anybody sell there - I'm just guessing that small sellers don't stand much of a chance.  Sort of like Mom and Pop Small Electronics Seller trying to beat Buy.com in the search results.
