As serious as can be
« on: February 12, 2008, 05:14:22 PM »

On January 1, 2008 I weighed 426 lbs. I was just overwhelmed by that extreme amount
of weight. It wasn't funny any more.

I vowed then that there would be no more cheetos, chips, candy bars, no unhealthy eating, and a definite emphasis on helping myself more, and also to follow doctors orders.

This is Feb.12, and I now weigh 381 lbs. I'm taking all my meds as I am supposed to.

I'm moving on with it.

I have set myself as a priority in my life and church work and feeding the poor second.

I have some serious health issues; but all of them are weight related. Lose weight, feel better. My doctor told me I don't need bariatri surgery, I need to put less food into my body and at appropriate times, and I need to exercise.

He has referred me to a place that assists people in my condition and helps them exercise.

I now have no more excuse. It is not funny anymore, this is serious stuff. I have advised those that volunteer at Etable to do their work as if I was there and that from now on I will be there1 day a week and that is Sunday when I preach and make out the schedule for the week.

I have run out of excuses.

Selah!

Leo, that's good news. You can not care for others if you do not care for yourself. Do the right thing and you'll be a wonderful example to your fellow church members and those that you serve. Deborah

Leo, I wish you the very BEST of health, always.  And now - you're taking control of your health -  :D! for you!
 And, for some inspiration...

Our own physical body possesses a wisdom which we who inhabit the body lack. We give it orders which make no sense. ~Henry Miller

To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear. ~Buddha

Your body is a temple, but only if you treat it as one. ~Astrid Alauda

The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in. ~B.K.S. Iyengar, Yoga: The Path To Holistic Health

Our bodies are our gardens - our wills are our gardeners. ~William Shakespeare

Yet this is health: To have a body functioning so perfectly that when its few simple needs are met it never calls attention to its own existence. ~Bertha Stuart Dyment

What fools indeed we morals are
To lavish care upon a Car,
With ne'er a bit of time to see
About our own machinery!
~John Kendrick Bangs

Good for the body is the work of the body, good for the soul the work of the soul, and good for either the work of the other. ~Henry David Thoreau

The human body is the only machine for which there are no spare parts. ~Hermann M. Biggs

Leo,

Good for you!

I'm sending strength and good thoughts.

I'm so glad that you're putting yourself first...it's an awful hard thing to do and will probably be one of the toughest things you'll ever do.

But you must, the faster you are healthy the faster you can help those at need help.

Blessings and much focus is wished for this venture.

Leo I am also on the same path except it's my fear of becoming like my father that pushed me to fitness. I don't ever want to deal with Diabetes. I started going back to the gym about a month ago and so far I have lost 10 pounds. I wish you all the luck in the world. You can do it and you have one heck of a cheering section right here. Do the exercises an eat the right foods and you'll start feeling better fast. Congrats on the weight loss too.

This may sound stupid but I started watching The Biggest Loser on NBC tuesdays at 8pm and that really inspired me to get back into the gym. Not that I am killing myself to lose weight like those people but I just related to some of the stories the people tell and I started wanting to lose weight. Join us in the fitness board there are some others in there having fun too. I am no expert but if I can help I will. I just wish some others would join too.

Ten years ago, I'd have given you a run for your money.  Just for fun, when a friend was showing off his roomie's weights, "and he can lift this one over his head", I showed him how to do a one-handed clean and jerk with 50kG.
