N.J. man gets two years jail for AOL spam scam

A New Jersey man was sentenced to more than two years in prison on Friday for helping send spam e-mails to more than 1.2 million America Online subscribers.

Todd Moeller, 28, was sentenced 27 months in prison in a federal court in New York after he was caught making a deal with a government informant to send junk e-mails advertising a computer security program in return for 50 percent of the profits, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan said.

^ good they took him down, but the fact he was for hire and all is proof that spam works, sadly.

what other laws besides antispam laws did he break to deserve 2 years in jail. I'd rather see him sentenced to 5 years sering food at a homeless shelter or cleaning pblic toilets in the NYC parks and house arrest at least he'd be doing something useful and not learning how to be a better criminal.

Except people who get those sentences have a bad track record of following up and the system gets too bogged down to force them to serve them out, so for all practical purposes, they walk.

Which is why they usually try to throw in RICO and confiscate all their money and "stuff", too.

I forget how much they nailed Spamford Wallace for.  He was the classic.
