* General Discussions / Any Kindle Fire users here?
« on: January 03, 2012, 10:59:27 AM »
We got my mom one for her birthday back in November and loved it so much I got myself one as a Christmas present.  :h0161

I absolutely love it! Runs any android app I want -- even from outside the Amazon app store. I found a tutorial for how to side load (without jail breaking) apps from other sources, like the Android Market. I have it set up with everything I could possibly need/want.

I use it mainly as a tablet, but also it's an awesome e-reader as well, it turns out.  :0240

Anyhow, just checking to see what others think of it. Can't beat the $199 price for all it offers IMO.

Gilenya, as many of you know, is the drug I was on for a clinical trial for the past 4 years. It has helped me tremendously in my battle with Multiple Sclerosis. If you, or someone you know, has MS and would like to learn more about this once a day pill treatment for the disease, please join me at either of these locations.

Don't live in Florida? Find a "Gilenya Go Program" live event near you:

* Amazon Central / I'm confused.. who is selling this?
« on: May 29, 2011, 07:34:12 PM »
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JQM1DE

It says Amazon but the photo showing the accessories looks amateur.

I bought it already but I thought it was sold by Amazon like it says... am I getting this from an individual?

*not that there's anything WRONG with that*...

I'm just confused.

I saw the video and I was sickened by it. Godaddy.com CEO Bob Parsons shoots a "problem" elephant for sport.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/31/bob-parsons-godaddy-ceo-elephant-hunt_n_843121.html

WARNING! THE VIDEO IS GRAPHIC AND DISTURBING

Competitors were quick to come up with some creative marketing strategies and I am jumping on this deal:

http://community.namecheap.com/blog/2011/03/30/elephants/

Namecheap.com will transfer your domains for $4.99 if you use the coupon code BYEBYEGD but you have to hurry. Deal ends midnight 4/2/11 EST.

From their blog:

We’ve decided to throw our support behind our Elephant friends by offering domain transfers at a price where we actually lose money.

Show your protest by saying BYEBYEGD again and transfer your domains to Namecheap for $4.99 for the next 24 hours through 11:59pm EST on 3/31/11 (limit 10 per user, valid for all com/net/org domains): Update: This coupon has been extended and will run through 11:59pm EST on 4/1/11.  Update 4/1: This coupon is so successful that we’ve extended yet again! The coupon will now expire 11:59pm EST on 4/2/11.
On top of that, we’ll donate $1 for each transfer to Save The Elephants at http://www.savetheelephants.org/

Use coupon code BYEBYEGD and let’s help the Elephants together!

Some anonymous person sent me a tie-dyed t-shirt tree ornament direct from a zazzle store with no hint of who it might be.

I asked all my family one by one. Each of them denied it, until seeing it and then saying "yeah, that was me."  :(

It wasn't Teri.

Lots of people on here have my address so I'm wondering if it was someone here.

Steve gave me  a beautiful sterling/turquoise necklace so I don't think it was him.

Time to fess up if you did it.  :grinch

And if you did it and don't fess up, I still want to thank you -- it's awesome!

* General Discussions / Evernote Premium for 1 month free
« on: December 23, 2010, 09:01:09 AM »
Teri and I use Evernote Premium to collaborate on projects. We store all our code snippets, zip files of complete orders, notes about ongoing orders, etc. in Evernote which can be synced across devices so no matter if it's something she's adding or something I'm adding from our desktop programs, we can rest assured the other one gets it. An indispensable tool for our business.

The premium account lets you upload zip files and pdfs and other things the free acct does not. It was only $45 for a year (or $5/mo) which is well worth the price for our situation. You get 1gig of storage space so it's a great place to keep photos. Also, it has a fantastic search function... it can search text in an image.

In my personal, non-premium account I have a scan of a handwritten recipe and brought it up by typing in an ingredient in my search box. Have you ever been in this situation?: You're in a waiting room, reading a magazine. You come across an article, recipe, photograph you would LOVE to save, but have no way to do it. Take a picture with your cell phone and send it to Evernote. Voila. it's there, it's searchable.

You can access your acct via a web browser or desktop app., there are plugins for most browsers to "note this" with one click on any web page, and you can access from mobile devices as well.

You get an email address with your account that you can then send notes to from outside the devices you have set up. Or you can give the email to friends and family so they can send stuff to one of your notebooks that they want to share with you.

My sister had all family members send their xmas wish lists to her Evernote email address. She compiled a master list and sent it out to each of us.

Anyhow.... we got an email from Evernote thanking us for being Premium Members and letting us know that the first 10 invites we send out to family and friends to join Evernote will automatically give them their first month of premium service for free. After that you will be downgraded to the free version.

Here's how free vs premium stacks up:
http://www.evernote.com/about/premium/

Just wanted to post this in case anyone was interested. We personally gain nothing from this, but it seems like such a waste of free premium service not to mention it.  :h0035 Post here or PM me if you are interested.

* General Discussions / Darkest day of your life
« on: December 20, 2010, 11:40:05 PM »
Tomorrow, which is the Winter Solstice, makes it the shortest day of the year, BUT it will be darker than usual as it has been a couple hundred years since a total lunar eclipse coincided with it.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/20/AR2010122006447.html

I'm going to go outside and see if I can catch any action. I may have to walk a few blocks as we live under a canopy of trees.

I got 3 bucks back in change the other day and I'm anal about wanting my bills to all face the same way. As I was sorting them out I noticed one of the dollars looked different. After a moment of closer inspection I discovered it was a silver certificate.

It's nowhere near mint -- rather aged and handled. No tears,  but worn. It's a 1957B.

Any clue as to where I might find out what it's worth? A quick google search revealed maybe $5, but I'm not by any means a collector. Heck, I can't gather up enough of the recent stuff to pay my bills, let alone have money sitting around in a *collection*.

Any help appreciated.

What's it good for? Do you want to watch netflix on your TV via your xbox but are sick of paying the monthly fee for an Xbox Live Gold account for the privilege?  Playon will let you access your netflix account, your hulu account, and much more via your xbox console (Video Library).

I signed up for it today. Works like a charm too.

PlayOn enables you to watch your favorite movies, shows and videos from Hulu, your Netflix paid subscription, YouTube, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, ESPN, Cartoon Network, South Park Studios, Adult Swim, Amazon Video on Demand, HGTV, Food Network and more on your TV. You can also access and enjoy personal media from your computer, such as home movies, MP3s and photos, right on your TV.

Note to admins: move this if not in the right place.

Coral Pink and Golden Sunflower Tie-Dye T-shirt
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140462230065

We're trying out the ebay market for selling our shirts. Starting at a rock bottom price of only $9.99 this might end up being a sweet deal for someone and a one shot deal for us. Normally listed on our site for $25, we will see how these T-shirt auctions go.

No reserve!
