I'm looking for a new provider to host my wordpress site and maybe other stuff. I think I'll go with a wordpress theme as my site for the time being, taking advantage of the extra pages available, rather than design a separate website and have a blog. At least to start ;) This is for a new project.

I've used powweb and have no problem going with them again. A friend uses bluehost and they are highly recommended for wordpress. I was all set to sign up with bluehost when I noticed their TOS prohibits using the space for storage/backup. I can understand them not wanting tons of stuff stored on there, but from what I read in a review or two, they can shut you down if they decide you have stuff just sitting there. Which I've been known to do  :-[ I mean, if all we can have on there is stuff directly related to/needed for what you're currently hosting, that's pretty harsh.

I've found some pretty inexpensive hosts out there, and don't want to spend more than I need to, but I'm more concerned with value and reliability than price. Startup costs are high and funds are low right now, so I'm not in a position to buy, say, 3 years of hosting to save money on the monthly fee. Maybe in a year or so I would be.

I'd love to hear your experiences/opinions! Post here or send me a message on gmail. starrynightdesigns @

* Everything eBay / "The seller is not answering questions at this time"
« on: September 04, 2009, 07:26:45 PM »
It's been a while since I was shopping on ebay. I was looking for something today and wanted to ask the seller a question. There were several FAQ type options, and at the bottom it said, "The seller is not answering questions at this time." and the contact seller button was greyed out.

Has this been like this for a long time? Is it something you set as a seller? It really turned me off from this seller. I totally understand that they may get the same questions a bunch of times, but to not even be willing to copy and paste a stock answer in reply make a big statement to me about their customer service.

I love seeing what different sites do to celebrate. is a favorite.

What sites have you found? Play any good jokes on anyone? Get fooled yourself?
My stockpile is finally almost gone, so it's time to look into this again. There's a local closeout store that sometimes has it, but I can't count on them having it in time. Who do you find has the best deals? Fast shipping is good too ;)
* Amazon Central / Amazon sales slowdown?
« on: January 19, 2009, 01:51:24 PM »
Admittedly, I don't do the volume to make a really accurate judgment, but sales are almost nonexistent for me this past week. Strange, since some of these items were listed before and selling, still have the buy box at least part of the time, etc.

Just wondering what others are experiencing!

Let me be the first to wish you a merry holiday on the day itself ;)  It's 12:08 here in Ohio!  :grinch

My child is throwing fits and refusing to sleep, so I don't know if Santa is coming tonight. Mommy might fall asleep as soon as she does, and there is some picking up and other stuff that needs done before Santa can visit.
* Amazon Central / Popular Out-of-Stock Item Notifications
« on: December 06, 2008, 04:16:30 PM »
Has anyone else gotten these?

Just in time for the holidays, we launched a program called Popular Out-of-Stock Notifications.

We’re notifying you when a significant number of potential buyers are looking for a product you once sold on  If you receive one of these Popular Out-of-Stock notifications, we encourage you to take advantage of the recent customer interest in the product and offer it again for the holiday season!

I've gotten a few, all for the same item that I doubt has been sold at retail for months. Believe me, if I had any left, I'd have it listed, and I bet I'd get a lot more than I sold it for!

It's a good concept in theory, but when items are out of stock for reasons like that, it doesn't really help much to let us know that people would buy them if we had them.

I told DH I'm thinking of getting some change from the bank to get to $40. Who knows how much change in in the change bank, but I doubt it's $40. We don't use Coinstar often... I forget if it charges a fee if you have the money converted to a gift card/certificate?

* General Discussions / Eradicating fruit flies?
« on: November 14, 2008, 11:56:41 AM »
We are getting quite an infestation of the things after years of almost no problems. DD has been on a banana kick lately, and apparently we brought home some with stowaways, and they keep jumping from batch to batch. When we have problems with other fruits, we start storing them in the fridge and are fine. I really don't want to but bananas in the fridge.

Any suggestions?
This article mentions NE OH locations, but it looks like it is nationwide.

A friend shared this...she found it in the hospital where her father is. You could substitute another word for God and use it as a meditation if that more suits your style. I find it very soothing.

Have not fear for what tomorrow may bring.
The same loving God who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and everyday.
He will either shield you from suffering or give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

* General Discussions / Has anyone tried Hyenacart?
« on: July 13, 2008, 12:11:46 PM »

A lot of moms who make cloth diapers and related accessories have shops on there, and I find myself shopping them more and more. It's an easy to set up store with reasonable prices. I'm not sure that it has the audience is as large as etsy for buyers doing random searches for things. When I go to HC, I generally go to specific HC stores.

It seems like I remember a few new members mentioning they had hyenacarts. Has anyone sold on both there and etsy to compare?

I just tried searching for stuff from the main page and I need to do that more often! Mostly I go to the shops I love.

One thing that is cool once you have a following for a shop is that shopkeepers can put items in their store and show when they will be stocked. That leads to stalking of the listings you really want. It seems like it'd work really well for someone who has a good following or mailing list but doesn't want to have an independent website for one reason or another.
I can't wait until we finish up some home improvement projects and I have time to focus on other things! (And have a house that is in a condition to have a sitter over...) I desperately want to get to some of the crafty projects I've had planned for ages and want to get my etsy store stocked.

I'll have to make several items to sell initially, and to show examples, of course. For those of you who sell mostly handmade items, do you tend to make things and sell them, do mostly custom work, or a blend of both? What percentage of your orders are custom and did that increase with time?

I am sure I will always make some things when the fancy strikes me, but I love custom or semi-custom work because it has a customer waiting for it. As a buyer I really appreciate semi-custom can see what you're getting but change options as they suit you. I'm curious as to what you've found works for you. I know the type of items and audience makes a big difference. I sell very different jewelry styles online and at local craft shows due to the different audience.

LOL now that I typed out some of my thoughts, I think I'll do a lot of semi-custom and premade at first. I just can't wait to get creating again and show off my talents :) And hopefully make some money and have fun at the same time!

Retail price is $349, so this is a great deal!

This is refurb.

The console does not include an HDMI port. (Ones currently for sale do, but they didn't always include it.)
