« on: May 30, 2012, 06:52:40 PM »
I only ever met Fred once in person....waaaaay back at Spare Dollar when we all got together and bought him a cookie bouquet during one of his very early stays in the hospital. Gosh, that was about 10 or so years ago...Sophie was three or four when we went to visit him and she'll be 14 this year.

Before I met Fred in person, I would mentally (and sometimes right on the forum even LOL) curse him roundly for being such a persnickety old fart. Meeting him didn't necessarily change the amount of cursing I did toward his posts, but it did add lots of laughter along with the curses.

He was truly one of a kind.

I am truly shocked to hear of Fred's passing.  :'( :'(

He was a wonderful person, despite what he'd have everyone think. His wit will surely be missed.

RIP, Fred. I'm glad to have known you.  :0771

You're absolutely right about that, shouldn't be put on your shoulders. There really should be no question that the dog should be put to sleep. It's a slam dunk decision. And while I know there's a tremendous measure of guilt associated because you are an animal lover, please don't feel guilty because ultimately you didn't make the decision. The shitty owner did through his irresponsibility.

Those who own large, powerful dogs have a greater responsibility to make freaking sure those dogs are well trained and well socialized. Throwing one outside on a rope for who knows how many hours a day - or days at a time - is not honoring that responsibility. The very fact that the owner himself isn't leading the charge for euthanasia tells me he wouldn't honor any dangerous dog provisions either. He would likely do just enough to get his animal back from AC and then it would be right back on a rope waiting for its next victim.

So please don't let your conscience be bothered by saving lives. The dog's and potential future victims'. A dog that aggressive is not happy. He's a tortured soul who needs release. He deserves so much better than his owners have obviously given him. And people in that neighborhood deserve to be safe from a vicious predator.

Amelia's doctor is absolutely right, Jeri. Especially now knowing the dog has bitten before. If the owners were really responsible, they'd have killed the dog themselves before the ambulance arrived for Amelia. Intelligent, responsible dog owners don't keep animals chained up all the time and they surely don't keep an animal who's bitten multiple children.

Edited to correct spelling error.  :-[

Jeri,  :-* for your heart, but I agree with Suze and Fred. The dog should be euthanized. Like yesterday. Any dog that aggressive toward humans has no business on this earth, and his owners keeping him on a rope or in a concrete kennel constantly will only intensify that aggression. Poor Amelia's suffering enough, the next child could be killed. :-(

I was and wasn't kidding.

When I was a kid and would go fishing with my grandpa he would always say "You're not holding your mouth right." in response to my incessant "Why aren't we catching any fish?" questions. He, of course, meant mine should be shut but I used to think there was a special way to hold it that would make me catch fish.  :0240

I do sometimes read BF's stuff aloud to myself and then it makes sense. That could be a product of me living in Ahia for almost 15 years now though.

Y'all obviously aren't holding your mouths right when you read BF's stuff. If you do that and read out loud, it almost always makes sense.   ;)

Yup, I know they're useless.....and so does my deer hunting BIL who's married to the SIL in question.  ;) It was more of a joke than anything. SIL is, well, blonde in every sense of the word, and has a bad habit of not paying attention while she's driving.

I live about 45 miles north of BF and deer are very common in my area. My SIL totaled three cars in two years by hitting deer on her way to and from work.

I bought her a deer siren for her new car for Christmas.

So sad.   :-(

I was in love with Glen when I was a kid....actually wanted to mail myself to him at one point. My dad asked what I would do if Glen was on tour when I got there, and my response was "hide under the sink and eat raisins (I had them in the box with me).
