I bet you'll be quite the fit bionic woman when your PT is all doneAs the saying goes, "from your mouth to God's ears!" :h0035 Deborah

Now I owe myself a walk.
We didn't get to walk today. :( I was on the phone a lot with job stuff early on, then we got a thunderstorm in the afternoon. It cleared up in the evening, and had cooled off, too, so I wanted to walk...only to find the stroller was in the back of my car, which Mike had taken to Cleveland. :m218
Now I owe myself a walk.
You're 290? You look a lot trimmer than that!
I went swimming yesterday and probably will again today. Come Monday I'll be making it a point to do something everyday!
I hope that others will continue to be encouraged by this thread that Serendipity began, and that they can also try and increase their own fitness if they choose to participate. Deborah
A day without doing something is like being dead.
On the serious side; since this thread started I have lost 5 lbs., but hey I don't want to brag about it yet because this family might order pizza tonight and that will be difficult to leave alone.
Deborah your post was VERY encouraging :heartB
I want to get in shape because I know if I don't do something while I'm still young enough I'll end up being one of those 300 pound people who can't move and is very sick.
My kids need me and I need to be able to take care of them for a very long time.
My weight even it its only 30-40 pounds right now is affecting my life. My clothing does not fit and I'm embarrassed to go places like the beach and other people's pools. This isn't fair to my kids they should be at the beach with our friends having fun.
I'll end up being one of those 300 pound people who can't move and is very sick.
From the knees down my legs are rock hard (due to spasticity) and ache and burn constantly. I totter on my cane and hobble wherever I go.
Just to make it once around the yard is all I'm hoping to do. Then I'll flop down in the lawn chair and work at catching my breath. :P
Right now, from the front door to the mailbox is about the best I can do. Everyone has their goals -- let's reach them together. :up
Does anybody use ALLI?
Let's Get Moving!
I just want to say how impressed I am with everyone's commitment to their own personal goals. Deb, you are especially inspiring!
I would love to exercise -- not to lose weight, but just to get fit and keep from losing any muscle mass due to inactivity.
My own personal goal is to walk once around my yard (3/4 acre) per day. That might not sound like much, but right now it's like climbing Everest to me. From the knees down my legs are rock hard (due to spasticity) and ache and burn constantly. I totter on my cane and hobble wherever I go.

BTW one of my favorite pizzas is topped with spinach, artichoke hearts, and white sauce. I used to get it in my college town, about an hour from Fred, and occassionally find something close to it up here. I don't remember it having an exciting name.
I got a gooder idee. Let's go back to bed. It's the crack of dawn, for crying out loud.
I had never heard of that movie! That name flew right over my head... :afdb

Plus its allowed on Weight Watchers which I will start full swing in the morning.
Can't to to the gym. Can't breath feels like allergies I have been feeling like this for 3 days now. Started when I was cleaning my apartment saturday. I must have swept p 2 extra kitties that's how much hair I have flying around right now. I on;y swept up last week. Problem is I keep rearranging and then unarranging things here so I have a constant mess. Have to clean up the kitchen again this morning. I haven't had allergies like this in 25 years. I used to get very bad hay feverbut not since I was a kid. 8)Sorry to hear about the allergies, but it sounds like you did get some exercise anyway just by cleaning your apartment! :updown Hope you feel better soon! Deborah
Treadmill this morning 32 minutes and 1.53 miles :moveWOOHOO! That's great, Danielle! :D! That is a terrific start!
So far I have eaten an All Bran bar and yogurt with a handful of high fiber/soy protein cereal for a total of 4 points.
Water = 3
BTW - I only planned to do 20 minutes to start this week but it felt good so I kept going :up
We have a library program to attend this afternoon so I'm not sure if we'll make it in the pool today.
Dr sez wheat holes are bad for me, just eat plane bread.Hmm, that must be a kidney disease thing, because our Dr's. tell us that we should avoid white flour and stick with whole wheat only. Most of the breads and other items label whole wheat are not all whole wheat, but the Thomas's "Hearty Grains"muffins are 100% Whole Wheat according to their nutrion label. I even use whole wheat flour to make our own spaetzle when I occasionally make Chicken Paprikash. Deborah
I don't hold up well to 90s and humid.:exactly :agree2 I hate hot, humid weather. I could never live in FL! If it could stay 74-76 every day with low humidity I would be in HEAVEN! Deborah :>
If it could stay 74-76 every day with low humidity I would be in HEAVEN!
That's San Diego you want!
The weather is not cooperating with me this week. Yesterday was super-hot, and then today it poured almost the whole time I was at a park with some of my relatives. I thought we'd get to walk, play with the kids, etc. but instead we huddled under a shelter most of the time.
Tomorrow is another day :)
I'm on my desktop computer for a change, with baby in my lap, and she's managed to click the mouse and hit the keyboard. Her first time using a computer! so cute! That's adorable! :vibes I bet that lifting her up high is a whole lot more fun than just using weights! It will be a great way to firm up arms and build lean muscle mass!
Did my water workout and swimming yesterday. Today we were at the park with friends so haven't done anything today.
I got stressed yesterday from being in court and haven't eaten very well. I feel like I'm stuck in a bad circle I can't break. Get upset and turn to food, get upset that I turned to food and be mad at myself with the why bother and it seems to never end. :h0162
I hate being like this :-(
or as Jools might say:Yep, I agree, Dayum! She's wonderful!
Dayum.
Think I can talk them all into working out next week while the kids play
I'm going to see if the kids want to walk the beach with me after dinner, problem is they don't walk they dilly dally and pick up stuff along the way.
Yesterday I did 30 minutes :move plus swam for a few hours. Didn't do anything today :h0162
Will you let her know that I asked. I don't want to interrupt her during the week.
I know she's in KS and you in OH...but ya'll had met b4, I had hoped she was able to come visit. I assumed (and you know what they say about assuming) her mothers hospital stay went well and she flew to go with you.
You both are special ladies Deborah!
Isn't it wonderful you two met?
I could've sworn B4 I left SD that ya'll had met. It was around the time you were starting to work on the catalogs. Or was it near the time of the watch? Geeesh...It's my old brain cells.
How bout a scan of the hospital bed with your leg in traction?SHHH, don't tell Sarah but it got ruined! During the remodel of the kitchen , the refrigerator was relocated to our dining room, and it somehow ended up in the construction debris! I haven't had the heart to tell her! Deborah
<smile>
Suthrnjewl<-----typing an email to Sarah right now.:44096 ;)
HA!
How is everyone else doing this week?
Just great. hammond cheese with chips and mac salad for lunch and Rally's western cheese dbl for dinner.Geez, BF, That is not what I would call healthy eating ! :-X It would put me way over on the sodium, fat and calories for the day!

We just had baked salmon steak, (along with my own homemade lowfat tarter sauce), fresh steamed brussel sprouts and steamed sweet corn. It was yummy! Deborah

I walked to and from my car several times in the heat today and did some walking aroudn in stores as part of my job. that was about all i could handle in the heat.
I did make plans to walk with some other moms on Thursday and we're making plans for Monday too. I'm probably going to try some air-conditioned walking in stores, with baby, tomorrow. we need groceries...wee!
I have a cheap (read: questionably accurate) pedometer somewhere. I might wear it tomorrow just to see how many miles i walk getting groceries and doing other shopping.
Isn't the recent heat here horrible! 90+ with 90+% humidity, YUCK!!Welcome to my world just about 24/7/365 here in Houston area.... :whew
The problem with 95 and humid here is that it's not usually quite this hot, and it gets cold in the winter time so we don't have thin blood like you floridians. We can get 30-degree temperature differences in a day or two. It's hard to get your body used to it. And our lifestyles just weren't designed for quite this much heat. Lots of homes and apartments without AC, etc.:agree2 :agree2
OMG what willpower!! and if you had a pedometer you probably would have been surprised at how much exercise you actually got "just baking" all day. That walking bending, squating (to check the oven) all adds up. I'm sure you got a good workout anyhow.
I walked and walked and walked today at an outdoor outlet mall. I walked with other moms, then did a few more laps on my own after we broke apart. I was getting tired and did one more lap, so I did some serious walking. It felt good to walk til I was tired. And because this threaad is making me feel more accountable, I was happy to be able to report that I think I walked a few miles...pushing a stroller with baby and stuff loaded onto it :updownAwesome, Anne! :cl :098
And let's face it, anything I can do sitting as opposed to standing is a major plus.
That's great, leo! That's a lot of weight for one week...can we rest assured that you lost all that in a safe, healthy way?
Pretty soon my doctor is going to start giving me acupuncture treatment for weight loss.:poke
:poke
I lose 30# a week with only four accurate punctures, does that count?
do you gain that back every week?yup, if at all possible.
Man, you've got to be feeling great walking out of there! Not really. Sitting in one position for four hours is a PITA. As long as my BP is up, tho, I feel OK.
I can't speak for the quality of it (looks a lot like my cheap one!) but you can get a free pedometer here:

I hear the survey is VERY short.
So is mine! Thanks for posting that! It goes higher than 2 digits?? Why? :017 :0240when you're running away from the dogs. :0240 :0240 :0240

The Latin milla passum (1000 paces) translates to a mile, but even in high school, I realized that a kilometer was more accurate.
When estimating distances, I use 3' per step, and it comes amazingly close.
I got my treadmill on freecycle - its nothing special but it does the job. I am making sure the kids get their fresh fruits and veggies before I do. Do you know how much fat is in those Raman noodles :o
I keep saying "think thin, think thin" but the mirror and my clothing shouts "you're fat" :-(
One thing about those noodles. Check the SODIUM content, it is beyond belief. It makes canned soup look healthy. The kids loved them, then I actually looked at the nutrition info, and not only didn't I buy them anymore I tossed the ones we had.
David(Mr. EOTRG)

I hear ya! While on steroids and having to be conscious of sodium and carb intake it just amazed me the amount of salt in prepared foods. Even whole grain BREAD has loads of it. I ended up cooking everything from scratch using Mrs. Dash and spices for seasoning. Once I got off the steroids and could eat "normal" again, we ordered take out from a local restaurant that cooks southern style food. I was appalled at how salty their stuff tasted. *sigh* back to cooking. :(

^^ Depends... was the parade right outside your door?
^^ Depends... was the parade right outside your door?Half block down the street. Almost missed lunch. Good thing I didn't, they had debbiled eggs.
Walked down to see the farwux. Saw an ossifer wearing off his donuts on a bicycle.
I was a good girl the past week with exercise and eating, and so far, since June 18th I have lost 6.5 lbs. :vibes Deborah
Are you supposed to be losing at this time?No problem losing weight now, I will be 6 months post op on July 15th, and since my knees got so bad about 10 months ago, I have gained weight as I wasn't active enough. Now that I am essentially healed from the surgery, it is okay for me to lose some of it.
Baby presses... great new exercise! There should be a mother's group that has you bring your infant and use her/him to work out with. As you get progressively better at it, the baby puts on weight anyhow, making the workout harder. No need to get a babysitter, and a great way to get together with other moms. I think you're onto something Anne!
So when the that years calves are born he starts lifting them each 5 times a day. And as they grow continues. Before the end of that year you have the Govenor of CAL-I-FORN-YA!!
I just do my mile walk - and walk - and walk - :thud
No loss. No gain. This week. :s0147 :s0147 :s0147
With that being said I plan to get back on track as far as diet and exercise next week. No more putting my needs last, in order to take care of my family I need to take care of myself and its okay to do that - I know that now
no gain or loss again this week. I think I'm going to try that ALLI diet plan.
YAY Leo for NOT GAINING!!! :D! :D! :D! That is as big a thing as losing, almost. The next best thing, anyhow. :D! :D! :D!I agree, Jeri, not gaining is a good thing! :P
Try to do it without drugs if possible. the less drugs one puts in one's body, the better, I am convinced. :vibes
especially since women's hormonal fluctuations can make a big difference in water weight!
B-12 shots because she had Pernicious Anemia (caused by B-12 deficiency).
My dentist had a problem a few years back where his hands started to go numb. It got worse and worse, to where he couldnt work and he went to doc after doc and no luck as to why. That happened to my brotherinlaw, the numbness continued to worsen...not a good thing for a dentist. After going from doc to doc to doc...the third one figured it out. He had developed an allergy to latex. Can ya believe it?
By the way, B-12 and B-6 are both vitally important to nerve function and regeneration, hence the similarities in symptoms when comparing B-12 deficiency to MS.And thus the tie-in to Carpal Tunnel and the need for a B complex: Myelin
Wow! So maybe now that I have quit smoking and have given up caffeine I might not be chronically B-12 deficient.
By the way, B-12 and B-6 are both vitally important to nerve function and regeneration, hence the similarities in symptoms when comparing B-12 deficiency to MS.
B-12 occurs naturally in eggs and meat. If you are a Vegan you need to take supplements so you don't become deficient.
Sorry for hijacking the workout thread. Maybe I should have started a B Vitamin thread?
my mom's fibrocystic breasts felt so much better when she stopped caffeineMy Aunt gave me some advice right before my first mammogram...
What happened to your accupoke?
I've taken B Complex since I was a kid and if I miss a few days my body knows it. And if I miss a few months like I recently did I hit rock bottom and become an emotional wreck.
I have come to the conclusion that my Seasonal Affective Disorder is to blame for my weight gain and issues with getting my business going, because I am functioning much better again now that it is hot weather. I can get up at 6:30 am and get things done, work until 10 or 11 pm and I feel motivated. Guess I either need to move away from the cold or take the Dr.'s advice and try an antidepressant. Would much rather move. I have a few months to think about it anyway.
The multiple vitamin that I take now does that to me. At first, it freaked me out, but now I am used to it! Deborah
OK -- I GOT A QUESTION for all you vitamin B complex takers
This might sound a bit gross but I need to know
is it "normal" for someone taking B complex to have an extremely weird yellow color pee?
Everyone is doing great :D!
As far as the B-complex and the weight. B-6 is a natural diuretic I take extra B-6 on top of the complex when I'm feeling bloated and need to drop the excess water.
Fixin to?
Yep, I was repairing to leave....
Not hunching over - good posture. Eyesight is fine for computer distance (and near and distance).
Thanks for the input - still looking for some exercises.
My preference is Tai Chi over Yoga.
It works better for me and is alot more gentle.
I've always preferred Chai Tea myself.ba-doom-chic
How many are back into an exercise program and what diet/eating plan are you using?
My PTherapist recommended I visit with a personal trainer once to have a personal exercise regime set up as going on my own could undo the good the PT has done for me the last year.
Absolutely. See a Certified Athletic Trainer, or an Exercise Physiologist. BS and MS level trained, and certified, individuals. It may cost you a few bucks more initially, but remember ---- you are ONLY using their services once or twice. Get advice from a pro, not from a wannabe.I know..I know.
2400 calories a day, right?
Anything she wants? Geeesh.
What's the exercise?
^Sade,
HA!
I'm SURE you're looking at the entire pkg, too. Personality, Brains, etc. <smile> Yea, right. <laughing>
at this point in my life I don't really care about or want the whole package. I have that at home, minus the 6pack washboard stomach. :nana I'm just enjoying the eye candy. ;)
You musta missed the six pack abs I posted of Eotrg2:
I'm only a few pounds more than I was before I got pregnant. Definitely 5 or less. :D! Now before I got pregnant I was trying to lose some extra weight that had snuck on, and only lost part of that 10 pounds, so ideally I'd be about 5 pounds below my prepregnancy weight. I could weigh less and still be quite healthy, but my body seems to like being around that weight so we'll roll with it, BMI be damned. I weighed less when I was in high school, but I had less curves, too!YEA!!!!!!!!!!
Um, I"ll take your word on that....
. I weighed less when I was in high school, but I had less curves, too!
It's a gotta, gotta, GOTTA for me.
I leveled off at 112 and that's where I am still.
I have a "well-woman" checkup on Wednesday. Not excited about stepping on their scale. It's always 5 more pounds than mine at home, and the one at home hasn't been very nice to me either. :-[
Is the tread climber like the step mill? looks like a mini escalator. I do that at the end of my workout 30 mins and it wipes me out. I also do 30 mins on the elliptical to warm up. then do various free weights and machines.
I asked them mainly to get their goat. <smile> I do understand that when they are able to be at spin class is normally when I'm in my jammies. Either before five am or after 9 pm.
I have two aquaintances that do a spin class.
If we're talkin bout the same thing.
They power speed a bike indoors with images/movies or something on the walls. It sounded creepy to me as they stated the room was dark.
I asked simply, why do you choose to do this indoors as versus outdoors?
I mean, REALLY, We live in Florida, warm weather, flowers blooming, blue skies, nice breezes and instead they choose to be indoors doing the same thing AND paying a gym for that priviledge?
I'll tell you the simple answer and it was the first thing I thought of. They can become unexpectedly exhausted and get off the bike exactly where they got on it. That's the one thing that's got me chicken to try and ride a bike again. I don't know if I can pedal a couple of blocks and get back home afterward. The bike that stays put while I move is the best idea.
:bike
Start slow, ride down the block and circle back then slowly try going around the corner keep at it until you can ride around a couple of times. Worst that happens you get tired plop down on someones lawn rest a bit and either ride home or push the bike back.
Geez, Jeri, if your MS has improved enough for you to even consider bike riding, then I am very, very impressed! :o ;)
If it is just, however, wishful thinking or even goal setting for the future, nothin' wrong with that either! Deborah
Anyone go to spin class? I want to try it. I am still in pretty good biking shape in the spring and summer I start out over in my neighborhood, head ove the triborough bridge, on to Ward Island, the over the little foot bridge you've seen in the movie The Wiz, into harlem, cruise down to central park, do a couple of loops there on the street (it's closed to cars) then down to the 59th st bridge, ride over the bridge and head home. Oh yeah and somewhere in there I stop for 6 dirty water hot dogs with onions and mustard. I need the extra gas power to get over the bridge. I do this all on a mountain bike with dirt tires, not slick road tires so it makes it even harder. I think I am ready to spin. And no Fred I don't mean a spinning like Betsy Ross did. It's best when done on a monday morning. I call it the NYC death ride. That's when you ride in morning traffic and try not to stop for as many red lights as possible.
Too man retired old New York farts down there driving. Seems logical to me I'd be afraid to walk on the sidewalk.
I'm wearing size 10 pants! I'm wearing size 10 pants! :D! :D! I actually sang a gleeful little song of that earlier today
And I know it won't ever be the same
Not wishful thinking! I'm really almost feeling like a normal human being these days
But I wouldn't trade my old body for what I have now, its worth the sacrifice :love005
zactly, Danielle! Couldn't have said it better myself.
The extra skin is there to stay, Dip. Only way to get rid of it would be (surgery or) gaining enough weight to fill it all out. Be happy for the sags. :h0161
I just dropped 26 pounds. 262 lbs that is my weight as of this morning. 40 more to go and I'd be real happy but I'll settle for another 20. :h0035
Do they make snow tires for bicycles? Just curious.
Great work, Sharky!!
Here's your attaboy, Sharky:+
Better then dumb ones
I'm not moving much.... unless you count my hooking,
but I've managed to lose 7 lbs in the last couple of weeks.
Dip~ You better be careful, or you'll end up gaining more weight!
You reminded me, the horizontal mambo is a great calorie-burner...hmmm :0771
Awww, thanks Jeri - your the best :heartB
The reason for the :-( is I can't see where it came off at, not like my clothing is fitting better or anything. I was very excited to see 10lbs gone but disappointed I can't physically see a difference. Used to be 10lbs gone and I was a new woman, that's just not the case anymore!
I even changed the batteries in the scale in case that was the problem and I didn't really drop 10 :-[
I'm not moving much.... unless you count my hooking, but I've managed to lose 7 lbs in the last couple of weeks.
Hey Sharky-
260 was.
242 now.
I am sittin' on my hands here. Can't believe some other smarty pants hasn't touched that one yet. :0240
That's a FANTASTIC start!!
Deb-- :-X
I know what you meant, but that so does not sound good! :0240
You reminded me, the horizontal mambo is a great calorie-burner...hmmm :0771
It sure is... but much more fun with a partner. :0771
Are you working out or did you just change your diet? I haven't changed mine much so the weight loss is just luck I guess.
Making the sign of the two headed octopus.
I call it the Horizontal Hokee Pokee. You put your :-X
Does anyone else find it disturbing that Sharky is sitting in front of his computer and just happens to notice that he has a 2-pack? :?
I am down to 248#. :nana :lift
Not bad for 5' 3". :nana
:0240
Looking at broads, no doubt.
I know Jeri - I'm just so used to looking at myself in the mirror from the front before going out of the house so it was kinda shocking to see how some of the other parts I don't usually see :o
Plus I still having eczema outbreaks and the latest has the back of my legs covered which of course I can't see very well but it looks disgusting.
The 8 pounds wasn't lost because I was trying because honestly I wasn't. I hardly ever eat dinner anymore - I know that's not right and I shouldn't skip dinner. But by the time I'm done cooking what the family eats (meat) I loose my appetite and can't eat. I'm not even sitting at the dinner table anymore.
I have to get up and move and I don't know why I find that so hard these days. Its one big depressing circle :-(
Not bad. What did you do the other six days of the week?
I've lost around 20lbs so far. How's that for an old lady??
none of this spinach pesto bullwombat poo poo either
I've lost 25lbs by eating 300 calories every 3 hours and running 4-5 times a week. :up
Alexandra and I take a lot of short walks together.
I couldn't get off that 250 mark.
I'm basically at the weight I was before I got pregnant, but there is a lot of flab and I'm not as toned as I should be. I feel bigger too. I've been proactive about contacting other moms about walking for exercise and socialization and hope to start up regular walks soon. In the meantime, Alexandra and I take a lot of short walks together. My invitation remains, and it would help you lose weight.
I'm just not hungry after cooking dinner.
