Title: Am I the only one who has this problem with Google Chrome?
Post by: springintoscooters on September 09, 2012, 09:16:27 AM
Open a page from a link on another page and it takes FOREVER to completely download, leaving the partially downloaded page locked up in the tab? Refresh helps, so does copying the link and pasting it into I. E.

Mornin Scoot,

I've not had this issue.
Double-check your settings.
Plus, something has to be hanging there...a pop up possibly?

If you have Chrome set to block Java it will do that. Also Chrome does not play nice with frames, as demonstrated on eBay Motors regularly. Could be counters and trackers on the pages you are trying to get to. Without the machine in front of me it is real hard to pinpoint the issue.

The frames issue can be fixed by adding the Windows extention to Google chrome.
It won't run the extension unless you choose it to run all the time.

I hadn't thought of the Java block.
Good call.

I just went into Advanced Settings and couldn't find a Java option. Where do I find the settings that pertain to it?

I set mine from IE - Manage Addons. I think most browsers share stuff with IE.

Ha - you da man.  :up All I know is setting IE fixed IE, which was acting just like he describes. My Chrome is set to allow Java and I don't have any problems with it.

Thanks! I'll give it a try and report back.

Java on. All other settings to default. Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem must be something else.

Newer Java version installed and the problem is worse. Could Norton's be causing the problem?

How about posting a couple links that I could look at.

This kind of link used to open fairly easily before the update:

The search term populates in the Norton search bar on Chrome ( I don't have it installed on I.E. ) and a blank screen appears, but when I hover over the blank page, the links are there. I've also recently uninstalled MSE and updated Norton's.

Just for giggles in Chrome, the Norton Toolbar can be accessed as a Chrome Extension. In the Extensions page of the Chrome browser, you can enable or disable the Norton Toolbar. Let's try disabling it and see what your result is.

I am sure you are happy I left off the other half of that.

That was going to be my next step even if you hadn't suggested it.

First thing that went through my brain when reading your words...I laughed out loud here.

Running like a new machine now that I'm down to one antiviral program and have disabled the toolbar. I considered not renewing Nortons and keeping MSE, but it runs so slowly when it scans and I just never felt comfortable when I ran with it as my sole antiviral. Probably mere perception but I've heard more than one expert say that it was better than nothing in both senses of the phrase.
