I walked thru the cafeteria line, and into a couple three stores.  Actually, I'm breathing a bit better, so maybe the vampires need to suck off some more crud.

I'm not trying to lose weight, but because of the steroids I'm on and the fact that they make me a diabetic while taking them, I have a strict diet I have to adhere to, and it just so happens that it's perfect for weight loss and overall general healthy eating habits. I just wish that I were as careful when not on these meds to eat the same way. I'm sure I would feel better overall.

I have to watch carbs/sugar intake very carefully. I met with a diabetic counselor at the hospital and she educated me about carbs and label reading. No more than 45 carbs per meal.

I also have to watch salt intake as the meds will make you retain water due to salt retention.

So here's what my day's meals were like, and they are typical for most days:

Breakfast:
1/2 cup oatmeal mixed with unsweetened applesauce.
I put some cinnamon in the water while it's boiling and between that and the applesauce it makes the oatmeal actually something I look forward to.  ;)

Lunch:
Sandwhich of
Whole wheat bread
mayo
3 slices low sodium deli turkey
slice tomato
slice onion
lettuce

1/2 raw avacado sliced with Mrs. Dash sprinkled on it.

Dinner:
1/3 lb salmon filet dunked in (and don't let this gross you out, it's fabulous!)
mixture of 1:1 miracle whip and salsa
pan fried in dry pan (mayo keeps it from burning)
1/4 cup Jasmati rice
6 fresh shrimp done scampi style in butter, garlic and lemon juice with a little parsley
1/2 cup steamed broccoli/cauliflower/carrots

For drinks, that's simple...I only drink bottled water all day long. No juice, soft drinks, etc.
I down 2 ltrs of water/day.

Last night I couldn't sleep and was up watching a movie. I was dying for a snack and I got a plate and filled it with raw baby carrots, slices of cucumber, tomato, and avacado and had a small pile of ranch dressing for dipping. YUM

That's what most of my meals are like -- I try to eat salmon or shellfish at least 2-3 times/week due to the high Omega3 fatty acids as they help to repair myelin damage to nerves. Avacado is a great source too.

I eat a lot of chicken, too. Red meat maybe once a week or less. I don't really care for it but sometimes I get a hankering for a big juicy steak like any red-blooded american. ROFL

Anyhow, if I can stick to that kind of diet all the time I'm sure I'd feel better generally. It's when I want the fried stuff or the hi carb stuff that I don't feel good afterwards.

Oh, and I'm violently lactose intollerant, so that's why you didn't see any milk or cheese listed.

Best of luck to anyone trying to lose weight. My sister is waaaay overweight and I worry about her so. She can't come to the house to visit without wandering into the kitchen to see if there's any "snack" stuff lying around. She started gaining weight at the same time she quit smoking and I'm sure it's because she traded one oral fixation for another.

As for excercise...

I went in the pool today and the water took the ache right out of my legs! I floated on a raft and just let the cool water sooth the pain. No strenuous paddling or anything like that, but I felt better anyhow. Didn't need the cane for the rest of the day.  :h0161

Jeri, that is great! Your eating plan sounds wonderful, I would love it. I am so happy to hear that floating in the pool was so helpful to you. With everthing that you are going through you have an amazing outlook and attitude, and you are an inspiration!

Anne, with working all day long, and taking care of a house and a beautiful baby, your getting out for a walk is really a big accomplishment! I always find that it makes me feel good to "push" myself just a bit farther each time, and I find that I can do more the next time.

Fred, I am sure that all that toy bargain hunting has really increased your activity. Shopping in a few of those big box stores in the same day is a major walk! (Before my knee replacements, I couldn't even consider shopping in one of them, let alone all the walking and bargain hunting that you are doing!) I hope that it helps you feel better and that it is beneficial to you as well. Deborah

I must have swept p 2 extra kitties that's how much hair I have flying around right now. I on;y swept up last week. Problem is I keep rearranging and then unarranging things here so I have a constant mess. Have to clean up the kitchen again this morning. I haven't had allergies like this in 25 years. I used to get very bad hay feverbut not since I was a kid. 8)

Sorry to hear about the allergies, but it sounds like you did get some exercise anyway just by cleaning your apartment! :updown  Hope you feel better soon! Deborah

Treadmill this morning 32 minutes and 1.53 miles :move

So far I have eaten an All Bran bar and yogurt with a handful of high fiber/soy protein cereal for a total of 4 points.

Water = 3

BTW - I only planned to do 20 minutes to start this week but it felt good so I kept going :up

We have a library program to attend this afternoon so I'm not sure if we'll make it in the pool today.

WOOHOO! That's great, Danielle! :D! That is a terrific start!
I am not going to the health club today. My therapist doesn't want me to do that 3 days in a row, but I will go to physical therapy tomorrow though.
Believe it or not, I had steamed vegies for breakfast (carrots, broccoli, baby corn and pea pods) and a Thomas's Whole Wheat English Muffin! (Yeah, I know it sounds weird :?, but it is just what I wanted, so that's what I ate!) LOL

There's no nutritional value in the plain stuff and most so called whole wheat products.  I look for 100% whole grain and read the labels to make sure there's no overly processed flour ;)

Hmm, that must be a kidney disease thing, because our Dr's. tell us that we should avoid white flour and stick with whole wheat only. Most of the breads and other items label whole wheat are not all whole wheat, but the Thomas's "Hearty Grains"muffins are 100% Whole Wheat according to their nutrion label. I even use whole wheat flour to make our own spaetzle when I occasionally make Chicken Paprikash. Deborah

The baby and I strolled down main street today, ducking in and out of shops. We only walked about 2 blocks and back, but it was really hot so that was something. I don't hold up well to 90s and humid.

That may be true, but I don't particularly care for earthquakes, mudslides, and wildfires, or their real estate prices  :o either!  :?

The weather is not cooperating with me this week. Yesterday was super-hot, and then today it poured almost the whole time I was at a park with some of my relatives. I thought we'd get to walk, play with the kids, etc. but instead we huddled under a shelter most of the time.

Tomorrow is another day :)
