You're 290?  You look a lot trimmer than that!

I haven't posted a recent picture i gained weight over the winter. I also have very thick legs from all the biking I do.

Pete, you probably look like my husband, then. Legs like tree trunks! But almost all muscle. He's what they call a clydesdale in the cycling world...big guy who could never be healthy below a certain weight.

I thought about using my baby bjorn carrier to walk last night. I didn't because my hips have been bothering me (going to the chiro today) and the more weight on them the worse it is. I can walk a lot further if I'm not carrying the baby. We got that carrier more for Mike to carry her when we go for family walks...well guess how many of those we've done... 0! I wear it around the house sometimes.

I know if I can just lose another 5 pounds or so, my hips will be much happier. I get a lot more aches when I'm above a certain weight. It's like my frame just wasn't meant to carry that much.

Well, on Thursday, my PT threw another new exercise into the mix. She put a rubber cord tied into a figure eight design around my ankles, with one side around each ankle. :-X (They remind me of rubber hand cuffs :o). Then she had me try to side step down a straight line in what she called the "inch worm" exercise.  :?
I was less than impressed but, of course, I did what she asked of me. I can not say that I liked it, it was hard, and very unnerving to try and walk sideways with my ankles shackled. I asked her if she wasn't taking this "sobriety check list" test a bit too far, but she just laughed and told me that it was all part of the balance and agility training that I needed to gain back my balance and gait.

:poke ??? :whew She also pushed my leg press exercise up to 60 lbs with each leg, 3 sets of 10 on each. I know to most people that may not sound like a lot, but for these newbie bionic knees, it was a challenge. I do feel as if I am progressing though, so I am glad that they keep pushing me along.

So, anyone else get in their fitness or exercise routine today? I did not have PT today, and did not get to go to the health club since it is Amanda's 20th birthday :362 today, and we had her over for dinner and birthday cake, :113 etc. It was a nice day, and we enjoyed having her here at home again tonight. I will be going to work out tomorrow at the health club, though!  ;)

I walked around half a dozen toy stores, does that count?  Would have done more, but ran out of car space.

Fred, you walked instead of using a mart cart?

The size a lot of those stores can be, I bet you got some exercise in. I've worn a pedometer a few times while doing demo/sales visits in electronics stores...i walk a few miles with walking from front to back, back and forth down aisles, etc.

I've done more walking than usual lately, but didn't get in that good exercise like I would have liked.

I just got home from my morning's exercise. David dropped me off at the health club at 10:30 and then I asked him to pick me up at 11:45. During that time first, I did the leg press at 70 lbs for 3 sets of 10 on each leg, and then I did 0.25 miles on the treadmill to warm up, and work on my balance and gait. Then, I did 10.4 miles on the recumbent exercise bike (and I did that 10.4 miles in 40 minutes today :h0161.) I was quite pleased with my self, and I finished in time to walk out and sit on the park bench by the front entrance to wait for David to pick me up. Then, he arrived in the Solstice and we spent 3 hours crusing around. We drove out to Sandusky, and then came back home down old Route Six and it was a beautiful day for a drive in a convertible! I stepped out into the 96 degree heat today to walk and I forgot about it immediately.

Leo, I am sure that there is some sort of exercise that you could do inside! Even when it is really hot outside here, I try to find things to do inside that will help me to exercise as much as I can.

I realize that you were just joking around about this thread, but to me, and to several others here, this is not a joke.  I am seriously working hard to improve my health.

Anyone can do some kind of exercise, no matter what their physical limitations are, but it takes a true commitment to do it. Making myself accountable here in this thread makes me even more commited to try and do it. Deborah

I try to not take life too seriously when it comes to exercise. That is not necessarily good;

but the only way I overcome my willingness not to exercise is by laughing about it.

I am not a walking advertisement for an exercise manual.  :0240 :0240 :0240

I'm glad that some find solace and comfort by being somber about their weight and losing it; and if that is the way you go about it so be it.

That is not how I choose to go about it.

I've seen the suffering of a man who has gone through bariatric surgery to achieve weight loss, let me state what he told me helps him get through each day, laughter.

I think that when one can take a good look at themself and realize the impossibility of ever being paid to model, then one can lose weight much easier, or at least laugh at the effort.

Why anguish over something you ate that made you put on weight? You enjoyed it when you ate it so enjoy it when you're getting rid of it.

Maybe I'm weird but have you ever walked into a gym and heard all those weird noises that people make while they are exercising to get in shape?  :0240 :0240 :0240 :0240

 :0240 :0240 :0240 :0240

Laughter is good medicine.

On the serious side; since this thread started I have lost 5 lbs., but hey I don't want to brag about it yet because this family might order pizza tonight and that will be difficult to leave alone.

My situation is so bad that believe me I have to laugh at it, after all what does one do with 397 pounds, a 65" waist, and swollen feet size 15, sometimes 18.

It's been a long time since I have been able to put on a pair of regular shoes.

The best part of waking up is not Folgers in my cup.

My waking is an anguishing challenge of one leg inside the left pant leg and then many attempts to get the right leg into the right pant leg side; and when finally getting that accomplished getting some air out of my air disk so that I can get my breath back for my effort..

Since the pneumonia struck me, I have ballooned by 75 lbs, no laughing matter for sure, but don't think for one minute that I'm going to sit around and groan about it all day long.

Today I have a little more strength than I normally have, I don't know if it is because I have been able to be a little more mobile everyday or not, but there is a sense of something good beginning to happen.

I pray like hell sometimes wishing there was an easier way to lose all this weight, unfortunately it is a long process, and it is hell!

Some days I can hardly get out of bed because my ulcerated sores bother me so much.

Maybe this thread will help me, and maybe it won't, but if this thread helps me to lose 100 lbs in the next year, that is at least 2 lbs. a week, I will be ever so grateful.

If that happens I won't know whether to laugh or cry. maybe I will do a little bit of both.

 :-( :0240 :-( :0240

Understood, Leo.

I plan to continue to do my exercises, it is very important to me. I have gone through so much all ready with my bilateral total knee replacements that it would be foolish of me not to take my fitness seriously.

I am no longer going to use them as an excuse to be unfit. For me, it has less to do with weight than it does with increasing my cardiovascular health and overall fitness.

I may not be anywhere the fitness level of some of the other people who are there working out regularly, but I enjoy my time at the gym. I listen to my MP3 player, and actually feel better when I leave there than when I arrived. I don't compare myself to anyone else there, I only work to better what I do. I will never be a fashion model, nor an athlete, but I can still do a lot to try and make myself feel and look better.

No matter what anyone chooses as their exercise, just trying to do something consistently is the most important thing. I hope that others will continue to be encouraged by this thread that Serendipity began, and that they can also try and increase their own fitness if they choose to participate. Deborah
