Know your product
« on: January 06, 2015, 09:04:33 AM »
Just came across a very good example of why you need to know your product.  I was at a shop inside the Denver Mart that sells pricey fashion belts, bags, and some clothes. They had some belts that had buckles with a large stone.  When the person I was there with said something about preferring it to be real turquoise, the sales person insisted it was real turquoise, followed by a statement that it was African Turquoise.  Um, African Turquoise is a marketing name (one that shouldn't be used) for a type of jasper.

If anyone knows about turquoise it would be you.
I might have called back to the establishment and asked to speak to the owner to let them know that the salesperson needed to tighten up on their info.

Hah, Amazon and the FTC, training us to be hyper vigilant enforcement robots in real life even!

That said, I know the products but I don't think I'd risk buying turquoise from someone else. Not even a fan of it, Larimar is neat though for an opaque blue stone. We sell a lot more of it than turquoise too.

@dude - laf!

What's bad is that the salesperson probably got the bad info from the belt manufacturer. While the wholesale shop should know the the product, there's absolutely no excuse for the belt manufacturer to be misrepresenting it.
