DMCA, Copyright, Images, and Trademark Issues
« on: June 07, 2014, 12:56:10 PM »
I have been mostly focused on Amazon sales, but I am now trying to build alternative outlets given what's going on in Amazon's Jewelry department.

What do you all think of copyright issues, and in this post, I am just talking about all these websites that steal your pictures and offer to make the "same thing", using your images?  The biggest culprit is Alibaba, of course, but what about these website that use your images, and do give you credit, usually in text, but it not a hyperlink, and nothing leads back to your site.  They do put your domain name, but what does that mean to google?  That they sell your stuff?  That your stuff is not unique?

I always assumed that any use of your pictures that didn't contain a clickable link was bad.  Is that correct?  What about Pintrist?

Or do most of you just ignore it?

I know about selling on Etsy.  This is really asking what other people do about other people using your pictures, and undercutting your prices, and how to handle it.

If it's Amazon...I report.
And it's worked.
In my days with eBay...report and they took the other persons items down.
I hate having to police my inventory that way...sorry you're having to do that.

http://www.myfreecopyright.com/

All my blogs, images, etc. have a digital fingerprint on them my registering them there.  You get an email that gives you the fingerprint and if you see someone using your image, it's easy peasy to prove.

Here's a list of other research I did when I put my store, images and proprietary information online

http://www.digital-photo-secrets.com/tip/1383/how-to-protect-your-photos-from-theft-on-facebook-and-twitter/

Hope this information helps.  It's tough when you have images online, someone is always going to "borrow" them without your express permission.  You have to be vigilant but I did notice that once I watermarked my photos with "Buy from" and my company name and anyone who "borrowed" them advertised for me, I wasn't so upset  LOL

Alibaba has downloaded my entire chakra and swarovski crystal inventory, and watermarked them as their own.  sigh.  I hate China.  I had my name on a lot of the pictures and they erased them, but I do think its a great idea to put my company name on them, I'm going to take that suggestion.  Not every one will take the time they did to alter them...it would have been quicker to shoot their own.
