New fake email w/ malware attached
« on: February 26, 2014, 07:40:45 PM »
Just got this in one of my email addresses.  Attached is a zip file that has some sort of infection.   I would presume a keylogger, but could be another type of malware. Either way...

Email was:

From: Urgent Notice of Eviction <support.2@ppmrental.com>
Subject: Move out notice

Attachment: Notice_of_eviction_id95506RE.zip

Urgent notice of eviction,

We have to inform you about the eviction proceedings against
you and the decision of the bank to foreclose on your property.
As a trespasser you need to move out until 27 March 2014
and leave the property empty of your belongings and any trash.
Please contact our office without delay to make arrangements for a move out.
If you do not do this, you could be simply locked out of your home.
Detailed bank statement as well as our contact information can be found in the attachment to this notice.

Real estate agency,
Karen Mason

-------------------------------

Inside the zip file is a file named Urgent_notice_of_eviction.exe

And the scary thing - Apparently it's new because Norton found no threat when scanning it.

I dont open any attachments any longer.  Been there and done that before, especially if it's from someone I have no clue about.  I see the attachment, look at the email addy and if I don't recognize it, it goes to trash.  Thanks for the heads up though, never know when you're going to be evicted     :laugh

Didn't our member Scoot have an attachment that automatically launched when he opened the email?
Scary stuff.

Now they've sent an Order to Vacate w/ attachment named Bank_Resolution...zip

From: Notice to move out
Subject: Urgent notice to vacate

Notice to move out,

As you have been failing to keep your payments
for the property, the bank has decided to foreclose on it
and now you are legally considered a trespasser.

First of all, you have to contact our office in order
we could make all arrangements for your move out
in the allowed time.

It is vital you contact us before March 24, 2014.
Enclosed are the bank resolution and our contact details.
