Chrome VS. Firefox
« on: February 09, 2013, 03:23:07 PM »
I've been running Chrome for sometime and I like it alot, but it has some problems. I ran Firefox a few years ago, but I couldn't quite get the hang of it. But then I realized that most of the things I didn't like about Firefox were things I'd learned to live with in Chrome. So, should I make the switch to Firefox? If so, please be specific about why. Thanks.

Nah, I'd go with IE 4.0.

If you like FF and it works for you, and your business, GO FOR IT!!

First choice for me is always: Chrome.
Second is Safari.
Third is Firefox
Fourth is IE.

IE...I have to kill so many items running in the background and I grrrrrr.
Safari is my second fav browser...I often forget about it though...it's not on my bottom taskbar, so I forget.
FF is very good in my opinion, I just don't have it tweaked as tight as Chrome. (mind you I use Chrome NOT signed into my Google products, i.e., mail, docs, apps, etc)
I could tweak FF if I took the time...but since Chrome is my go-to I haven't taken the time, nor have the desire to take the time.

^Sounds like you're in the same boat I'm in. I didn't mention Safari, but I accidentally down loaded it along with an i-Tunes update. I like it, but I don't use it much. I prefer it for private browsing because it's easier to turn on the mode and harder to accidentally leave the mode.
As for Chrome vs. Firefox, same here, Chrome seems to do everything Firefox did and is a little faster. Firefox runs smoothly and since most of the protocols that initially stumped me about Firefox were also in Chrome, I've gotten used to them, but when I was running Firefox and I.E. I noticed that although Firefox was faster, it bogged down when the system was under load almost as much as I.E.
Chrome tends not to bog down so fast.
When I asked for specific reasons, I was hoping that people who had run Chrome and Firefox side by side could give examples of which browser worked better for them under what circumstances.

Don't look now, but it looks like Fred's ghost is haunting your computer.

I run both and I prefer Firefox.  I don't notice a lag or any noticeable "speed" differences between the two, running them simultaneously going to the same websites, etc. FF seems as fast as Chrome to me.  The one thing that I did right off the bat with FF was go to Help tab and restart with addons disabled.  Don't know how some of them got added on, but with the addons disabled, except DNT (Do Not Track Me, I always run that) you'll see a noticeable difference in FF's performance side by side with Chrome.

Thanks for the tips...I've not ever tightened-up FF and it's one of the reasons why I automatically go to Chrome.
I'm going to do this now..maybe later...maybe tomorrow...end of week...who knows?
<smile>
Teasing...I'm going to do this.

Yep.
Loved Netscape.
BF would've enjoyed your IE 4 post.

Saw the flurry of posting on this and came to check it out. I had been running Chrome but was having some issues with it and just by default came back to IE. I like Safari OK but it's kind of like Chrome in that it's not as customizable as some like FF. I think I may go check out FF again. There are some extensions used for business that aren't available on other browsers.
OMG, I remember Netscape. I thought it was a good browser, at least for its time.

I wouldn't use IE until 5.0 came out, by which time AOL had acquired and subsequently ignored, and or trashed, Netscape. That one one 4 Billion dollar boondoogle.

I usually run Facebook on Chrome, it runs much faster there. I used to run You Tube on Chrome, but lately it's been more stable on I.E. than on Chrome or Safari. I come here on I.E. mostly because I access the site from my favorites menu and I prefer how I.E. allows you to navigate a long favorites list by typing the first letter of the website name.  Chrome doesn't allow that.
