New Feature - Modification of Ignore User Function
« on: October 26, 2010, 05:26:22 AM »
The "Ignore User" feature has now been expanded to include posts (previously, it only let you ignore PMs from the user)

For any member you add to your 'ignore PMs from' list (located under Profile -> Personal Message Options) it will replace their posts on the forum with "You are ignoring this user. Show me the post."

Note: the 'ignore PMs from' list allows the use of an asterisk as a wildcard for ignoring all PMs from all members.  Using this wildcard will NOT cause all posts from all members to be ignored; the 'ignore posts from' extension requires an exact match on the username and does not recognize the use of wildcards.

just a followup to clarify - if you choose to ignore a posts from a forum member you will also be blocking PMs from the member.

I rarely use PMs, and wish other people wouldn't.  Email works so much better.

I can see your ppoint, but some of us use different systems for email, some browse using cellular phone, etc.  So, good reasons for both.

Except those of us who don't like it can't shut off our PM link.

BF,
You send PM's.
You may not like the PM link, but you do use them.
You state rarely, but you DO use PMs.
If you were to shut off the PM link, then you wouldn't be able to know if I or others responded to your query via PM.
Your personal opinion of whether you like email better is just that.
Your opinion.
There are others that like having the ability to use the PM system offered by this forum.
We (the admins) do not have the ability to add the shut off PM link with this software and that's the reality of the situation.

I send PMs to people who don't have an email link ONLY, like you.

If I was to shut off the PM link, people wouldn't be ABLE to respond via PM.  Besides, the only reason I even check in to PM is because I got an email giving me the content of a PM, and there is no other way to reply.  Just extra steps that could be avoided by using email in the first place.

Then that's really the answer.  The broken software allows a user to not have an email link, but does not give the same option for PMs.

You have my email as do the majority of advanced members in forum.
I don't understand why you'd have to have a link when you have my email address.

I have opted not to get PM transcript via email...that's just my personal preference. I need to sign into the board is owned by me/admins and I need to make sure it's running smooth.

Answering a PM in your email would be easy, just take out the email address and substitute my email address.

Broken software is free and works real well as far as I'm concerned.
If you feel like buying us forum software that has what you want...then get with us to let us research to see if it's the software we want for our/your as it stands free forum.

Yes, I have your email, somewhere it can be found with a search.  I'd rather have a link an inch away from what I'm reading. Just lazy that way, I guess.

I never understood why people think others save their email address.
I have known Donna for years and years.  I have even received emails from her.  But I don't have her email address, I don't have BF's and I don't have Steve's.  I don't say email address becuase I hate when people save mine!
I don't even save my family members.

It's a great way to feed those joe spam or whatever it's called when you get those emails that grab your contacts.  My contacts is empty.

To all members:
You don't have to save my email address....My email address is viewable to all via my ESM/ASM profile.
I have opted to have my email address on my profile viewable under preferences to all members.
Adding another way for you to get in touch with me...it's been that way since we built this forum.
PM, email, PING'ing me on the forum...I'll get your message/note.

Better look again:

Email:  hidden

And even if it's listed there, that's still not as good as having an icon on the post, next to the PM icon, like mine.

Thank you.
I've always had it available.
I'm not sure what happened if one of the upgrades changed my settings.

It is another means of communicating with our members.

modified to add: My account profile status states:
Hide email address from public
I don't have it hidden from members, just from public.
I'll check to see why it isn't showing for all approved members, instead of just being hidden from the public.
