Natural melatonin? That's all I need to hear to try dosing my kids with cherries as their evening snack! Kid1 NEEDS to start going to bed earlier because she's been waking up at the same time she'll be starting preschool in just one month...

Portable cherries:

We are HUGE larabar fans - buy them by the case from http://www.allstarhealth.com/  (flat rate shipping!).   I *heart* the peanut butter and jelly flavor - which is also made with cherries, but tastes like a smooshed up, old timey peanut butter and grape jelly on white bread sandwich.

I would  :love005 :love005 them too, I'm sure, but like most nutrition bars, the 30g of carbs and 23g sugar in them make them totally off limits for a diabetic like David.  :-(

Dayem, I knew about the heart problems, but didn't know about the diabetes.  So what's allowed on his diet, water soup in moderation?

I read the article yesterday, BT...it's a good one.

I tried the cherries last night before going to bed as opposed to snacking on them during Big Brother to see if there was a difference. (the melatonin effect)

I did go to sleep faster.

I'm going to try this for three nights in a row to see how it goes.

OK, we have 3 nights now, how did it go?

Appears to work. Even though I didn't mix in walnuts with the cherries.
I just ate the cherries by themselves.
(I had the red fingertips to prove it, too)
It not only worked for me, but one of my children tried it, too.

I got inspired from this thread to go get some cherries the other day. They are yummy, but not as yummy as the pineapple I picked up at Publix... It was awesome! :up

Regarding the cherries: The beginning arthritis that I have in my pointer finger (right hand) has lessened also.

I don't know if that's tied to glucosamine because I started both around the same time.

I do know that I'll be buying dried cherries (near the Craisins & raisins in store) through-out the year when the fresh ones are out of season.

The melatonin affect of cherries is definitely a plus for me.

@Suze, I agree. I bought a pineapple two weeks ago...just love it! So juicy!

Donna, the PINEAPPLE is probably more responsible for the reduction in arthritic pain than the cherries! Pineapples contain the enzyme bromelain, which reduces inflammation, and is often recommended by rheumatologists for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The glucosamine MAY help, my Dr. tells me that it has not been clinically proven to be beneficial, but he says that unless it is a financial burden, he would recommend taking it. I do take it and have since having my thumb joints replaced. I will continue to do so since my arthritis has already caused so much joint destruction that I want to do what I can to avoid any further problems.

Plus, it just plain tastes good!  :love005 :heartB

I'll bet they had to buy the domain name from a political message board.

:up :up for pineapple inour house.  We've always consumed tons of fresh pineapple tho.  Wish it was helping my DH more...we eat 2+ fresh ones/week.  They have been cheaper, finally, as well!
