Cherries, Cherries, Cherries
« on: July 21, 2010, 12:18:17 AM »
I am thrilled to find that my consumption of fresh cherries has truly helped my fibromyalgia with marked results!  My Dr. suggests dietary changes as he finds studies with encouraging results, obviously, but in the past - he's never really suggested that fresh cherries might help.  We eat them by the basketful around here - and I've found a few varieties of Fresh Cherry juice in my health food store that I really like as well.

I have had less joint pain since eating more of them this year than ever before.  Too bad I don't have access to them year round!

Try them if you ever suffer from any inflamation issues - I'm a true believer!

I have been eating lots of cherries lately too. They're addictive!

My hips still hurt when I get up in the morning but I believe that's due to fighting all the waves at the beach while boogie boarding and not necessarily arthritis.

That is fantastic that you have found a natural way to combat your Fibro! As far as the issue of not having them year round... do they freeze?

I was listening to NPR's "Ask the Frommer's" travel show.
A listener called in stating that they were traveling to Thailand and hated the thought of having to battle jet lag.

The Frommer's stated that a recent medical journal study regarding Cherries and Walnuts does battle jet lag thanks to the melatonin levels in both. The melatonin helps regulate the natural sleep cycle, ease jet lag and restore normal sleeping patterns when traveling.

Don't forget that dried cherries are also available for year round use. Or dry your own. We love them and use dried cherries alot when fresh aren't available.

There's more info on the www.choosecherries.com site

The darker the fruit usually the more benefit you will derive from eating it. Blueberries, blackberries, bing cherries, but not bad bananas.  :smarty

Kim I am happy you have found something that helps, I believe diet plays a big role in how we feel.

I heard recently that most of the EVOO in the US isn't.  They said you'd be lucky to get second pressings.

Guess they ran out of virgins.

I read the article yesterday, BT...it's a good one.

I tried the cherries last night before going to bed as opposed to snacking on them during Big Brother to see if there was a difference. (the melatonin effect)

I did go to sleep faster.

I'm going to try this for three nights in a row to see how it goes.

I started to have what seemed like flu symptoms of like body aches all over.  So I started to do some research as to what it may be and found that it possibly may have been the same thing.  So I started to dig into ways to relieve it and found that taking magnesium everyday helped slowly take away those symptoms.

There is a lot in cherries that do help people who jog a lot but I have to have a variety of fruits as I get bored eating
the same ones everyday.

But believe me when I state that even though I did not go to a doctor to find out for sure, I DO know what you and others like you go through everyday of your lives.  It is not fun at all and hurts!

Have seen that as well.   FIL found a great mail order source - much cheaper and in recycled soft pouches. He just sent us some...yummy!

Yep - we avoid all processed sugar and caffeine (not 100% free...but pretty darn close).  It absolutely helps.

I'm guessing Cherry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (no sugar added) won't have the same effect  :h0161

Portable cherries:

http://www.larabar.com/food/larabar/cherry-pie

We are HUGE larabar fans - buy them by the case from http://www.allstarhealth.com/  (flat rate shipping!).   I *heart* the peanut butter and jelly flavor - which is also made with cherries, but tastes like a smooshed up, old timey peanut butter and grape jelly on white bread sandwich.

We keep these in the car, at the office, and I usually have at least one in my purse!   (Other awesome flavors are keylime pie and banana bread!)
