Lettuce recall: E. coli outbreak alert in 20 states, 12 hospitalized from Sysco contaminated lettuce:

At least 19 confirmed cases of E. coli have been reported in association with the Freshway Foods romaine lettuce recall. The shredded romaine lettuce is sold in more than 20 states.

At this time, 12 people are hospitalized and 3 are in in serious condition. This lettuce can be found at salad bars and delis in at least 20 states across the US.

The states included in this Imperial Sysco Brand Romaine Lettuce recall are: Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Only one strain of e coli is normally tested for.  One of the chains tested for another problem strain, and found some.

They figure it would cost another nickel a pound.
