Got my Pantry order. The UPS guy didn't even have to use a hand truck. He carried the box up the 3 steps and placed it on the porch. Everything was packed nice and neat in the box. Nothing small was damaged. Not a bad first impression for me.

Speaking of Christmas in July....

I'm knocking down all of my Christmas mugs that haven't sold since last year. Thinking about lowering them enough so that it will be an "add-on".

And then I have tons more of Christmas stuff on the way. Will it ever end? haha

I've already submitted a couple things for liquidation. Doubt I'll receive anything as Amazon never paid people (according to various threads from last year and early this year) when they did their testing.
Steve... so sorry to hear about your woes. I'm glad you got all that fixed for the most part. Hopefully things go well like a smooth-oiled machine for you here on out.
Oops... forgot the other link:

and here's another take of the commercial... kinda funny

Speaking of Amazon in the food business....

I made my first Prime Pantry order. Purchased the qualifying number of items for free shipping and still had room in the box. So, I threw in a couple 12-packs of soda. Yes... soda! As in the 12-pack of cans.

I should be home by the time UPS gets to our house on its scheduled delivery day on Tuesday. I'm gonna have to see this dude actually deliver this package.
Now I've got that song stuck in my head.  Especially with the visuals from the Geico commercial with the band playing it.

Ha. That was good!

I can't figure out what the DOJ and regulators will eventually conclude, but there is already a lot of voiced concern over the result of the acquisition should it go through. Can't say I'm happy about the acquisition as it will probably lead to a lot of job losses within the grocery industry. They're already looking to cut unprofitable stores. Would hate to see more stores than necessary close if Bezos gets Whole Foods.

You two are just addicts. Ha.
Seems to me that it's not so much about preventing people from price comparing inside an Amazon owned shop (though it does have that aspect to it, which is a huge benefit for Amazon), but more so about preventing other businesses from implementing the same sort of tech in their own shops.

I think that is the key right there.
Thank you for not being too pushy. You're right, I do see it from another perspective. Again, no ill-will was meant and I'm glad your daughter will benefit from this. Prayers and thoughts go out to her (and you).

It supposedly doesn't actually record until it hears the trigger word (alexa, unless you set it up to respond to amazon, computer, or echo), and then records what's said immediately after.

From what I've observed, that is the case.  I haven't seen any network activity from it until the wake word has been said.

However, it can be used to eavesdrop by someone with the correct tools (by NSA, hackers, etc).  But, so can your phone, your tablet, your laptop, your tv, and many other devices around you.  Not to mention the old fashioned ways of eavesdropping. Cell phones are probably the worst, since they can provide so much --  phone convos, messaging transcripts, email logs, recordings of everything said in vicinity of phone, logs of everywhere you went, logs of everything you looked at online, etc.

Anyway, I figure there's lots more interesting folks out there than me for them to listen in on ;)

Which is why, when I do retire, I'm going to live in the middle of a national forest somewhere with no phone, no electricity, no internet and live off the grid. Just call me Uncle Leroy, the Mountain Man!
* Amazon Central / Amazon Buys Whole Foods
« on: June 16, 2017, 11:03:36 AM »
Amazon (AMZN) is buying Whole Foods (WFM) for $13.7 billion, the companies announced on Friday.

In a statement Friday morning, the online retailer said it would buy the high-end grocer for $42 per share, more than the $33.06 per share Whole Foods closed at on Thursday.

The deal is Amazon’s biggest deal ever, topping the $1.2 billion the company paid for online footwear retailer Zappos in 2009.

After the announcement, Whole Foods shares were up 27% to trade at $41.99 per share. Amazon shares were up 3.4% in early trade on Friday to trade at around $996 per share.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said, “Millions of people love Whole Foods Market because they offer the best natural and organic foods, and they make it fun to eat healthy.

“Whole Foods Market has been satisfying, delighting and nourishing customers for nearly four decades — they’re doing an amazing job and we want that to continue.”

John Mackey, the CEO of Whole Foods, will remain CEO of the company and its headquarters will remain in Austin, Texas. The companies expect the deal to close in the second half of this year.

Alexa scares me. I have nightmares about "it" growing legs and attacking me while I'm asleep.  Ok, not really. But it is freaky that it constantly records what is being said (so I've been told) as long as it is on.
My sales were down about 70 percent on Friday night / Saturday morning. At least they've seem to bounce back over the weekend.
I meant no ill-will against those that have a real disability or situation that is comparable.  Other side of the coin is noted.
Our wonderful tax dollars going to Amazon. Go figure.
* Amazon Central / FBA negative feedback actually removed
« on: June 06, 2017, 03:01:16 PM »
Had two feedbacks last week. One was a product review (immediately removed as per the bot) and the other one was a review on Amazon's poor packaging and the subsequent damage to the book the customer received. Within a few hours, it was struck through.

There is hope for those that have had feedback issues lately. At least we know Amazon hasn't totally given up on removing/striking through unwarranted feedback.
Many folks on the forums have reported that even when putting [Important] in the heading, the messages were still not going through.  Leave it to Amazon to screw things up.
